Try cleaning out the filter. There may be a heat protection mechanism in there. We had much less problems after cleaning (or replacing the dust filter).
If this projector is an LCD (liquid crystal display), your LCD probably gone.This usually happens after a period of time with an LCD projector.Try cleaning the LCD or take it to your Sony dealer.

fisrt, did you reset the lamp timer? if the projector turns on again, go into the menu settings and reset the lamp timer. 3 flashes also mean that the lamp is too hot. let the projector go through it's cooldown mode and shutdown before you unplug it. remove the filter case and vacuum or blow the dust out of the filter. you can also blow the dust out of the projector (if any) with canned air. lastly, be careful where you buy lamps from. you get what you pay for. cheaper isn't always better.
How old is your bulb? If it's got more than 1000 hours, it may just be getting dim and needs to be replaced. I need dark curtains in my living room to view movies, you just can't watch anything in a bright room with this unit.
