How do I fix a pull chain that broke off inside the motor

My patton fan pull chain either pulled out or broke off. It is a 2 speed fan (high off low) and it broke in the off position?

SOURCE: Looking to replace Patton fan motor, model 1010mp, style TJ74SP

If you are up to disassembling your motor, you will find a thermal cutout near the windings which frequently fails open. Replacements are readily available, or just jumper it out. If the bearings are shot or the windings burned you're out of luck. Trust me, a new motor will cost more than a whole new fan.

SOURCE: where do i find a replacement motor for my patton

Before you replace it, try oiling it -- look at the little oil hole on the back of the motor housing. Or try taking it apart and cleaning it, then oiling.

Did it work before, but gradually slowed down and then refused to start? See other threads on this topic for that fan model.

Harbor breeze fan remote

If the fan has a pull chain then push the Hi button and then pull the chain until it's on high. Then don't pull the chain! If that's not your problem then check the capacitor in the fan.

Hello. we have just purchased a new Hunter ceiling fan model 20593 with the remote. we installed it and got it working but, it will not go fast at all. we looked at the instruction manual and found that...

It's been awhile so you've probably quit by now, but if yo haven't , try this: Get up into the light bowl area nad look for the pull chain on the side of the housing. Pull it 2 times and it should put the motor into high speed. Click the #3 on the remote and see if it goes to high speed. If not, pull the chain and try again. Keep doing this until the motor gets into high speed. It should only take a few times at most.

Low and medium fan speed no longer works on our Hampton Bay fan when you pull the chain. The high speed works. Can this be fixed with a repair part?

the speed is controlled by a capacitor bank ... high speed uses no capacitors, low speed uses a small capacitor in series with the motor and medium speed uses a larger capacitor ... the pull chain switch selects which capacitor is used ... so if the capacitors go bad or if the switch fails to select them then you will not have low and medium speed ... so you could have a bad speed capacitor block or a bad switch or wiring that has come loose inside the fan (that connects the capacitors) .. all are replaceable .. i would first remove the covers from the fan and check all wire connections .. check the switch to see if it operates smoothly .. then suspect the capacitor block .. if you were an electrician then you could bypass the switch to test its function but if you are not then make sure power is off while working on the fan .. you should be able to get a new capacitor block from the manufacturer .. most are similar if they will phisically fit in the fan housing and have the same connectors ..

Need to fix the pull chain on a model P3086

It uses a standard pull switch available at most hardware stores, just make sure you get one with the same No. of speeds and transfer one wire at a time.

Ceiling fan stuck on low

in order for the remote control to work properly the fan has to be on its highest speed using the pull chain ... after setting the pull chain in the proper position you can tie up the chain or remove it to prevent others from changing the setting .. the remote will control the speed from then on ..

My hunter remote control ceiling fan doesn't go real fast. the highest speed is what a normal fan would do on medium. is there a fix?

if you have pull chain switches in addition to the remote control, your pull chain switch may be set to Medium, which would make the fan run on a maximum of medium speed.

Our handyman installed our Hunter Douglas Westside fan yesterday, and there is still a strong electrical burn smell everytime it's on. Should I be concerned? Thank you!

If you are controlling the fan speed with a wall type dimmer switch, the mechanical pull chain switch must be in the high speed position ONLY. If the pull chain switch is in the med or low position and you are using a dimmer type wall switch to control the speed you are burning the motor up. If this does not apply to your situation then it is possible that the fan is defective or maybe some packing material inadvertantly got inside the fan

Hampton Bay 54 In. 5-Blade with remote control at wall.

1. Set the remote to run the fan on high.
2. Pull the fan speed chain until the fan reaches high speed.
3. All speeds should work normally now.
The remote is modulating the maximum speed as set by the pull chain.
