try dropping the drain hose to floor level
the problem most likely is that there is an obstruction in the pump impeller preventing it from spinning and pumping water
The impeller starts to spin immediately.
Fill the unit with tank water before you plug it in. It is not a strong enough pump to pull water out of the tank when it is dry, that would require an air pump. It has to be in water and then it will be able to push that water out which will draw water through the uplift tube.
NEVER run your water pump when it is dry. This will damage the impeller and possibly the impeller housing (the hole it sits in) and then you get to replace one or both of these.
Pour tank water into the filter until it starts to overflow back into the tank. Plug it in after you dry your hands. You should be able to hear the impeller spin. If you hear a noise and then it goes quiet, then the impeller is blocked for some reason and is not spinning. Unplug it and take it apart. The impeller should be smooth with no scratches or burrs that will cause it to catch in the housing in and stop spinning.
For regular maintenance, clean this impeller once ever few months by using a clean toothbrush on the sides of the magnet, on the flat end, and in the hole it sits in. Do this when you do your regular partial water changes.
Hello If this is a 220 volt pump then it needs to have 2 hot wires,so it would be connected to 2 15 amp breakers. The ground shold run from the pump back to the fuse panel box ground bar.
If this is a 115 volt pump it should be connected to one hot, one nutral, and one ground.
Possible a hot wire is making contact with water and tripping breaker.Or the pump motor is going to ground which means its no good.
I presume your pump is having a separate power supply. It is to operate if and when there is power outage. Am I right? Check your Shur-Dri backup pump. Plug it to another power source, and switch it on. If it runs, then the problem could be power supply. Have this checked using voltage tester (multitester set at 300 volts) or you may use an electric bulb.
This could be several problems, a better description would help. If you have a presure tank the tank can lose air and sometimes need recharging. the regulator to the pump could be bad or out of adjustment. these are the 1st problems that come to mind with water pump problems.good luck.
