SOURCE: Loud, knocking noises

probably the fuser or the fuser drive gear.
The ceramic gear on the fuser usualy breaks first, while the complete gearbox keeps on running breaking the plastic fuser drive gear s well.

To replace a fuser you'll only need to unscrew 4 or 5 screws i guess and disconnect 2 connectors.
To replace the fuser drive gear that's some other stuff.

I have an HL-4040CDN Brother printer that prints too red. We just purchased it and need how to fix this problem. It also prints colored text too light.

Many people are having problems with this machine. If you are dissatisfied with the quality I would return it and try something else. Your most economical solution is going to be a factory refurbished (with warranty) HP color laserjet. Staples usually has some good deals.

How do I clean my Brother HL-5170 printer? It is

You may need a new drum, refilled and generic drums don't get a new cleaning blade and toner goes everywhere, some generic toners are not good as well. Also with age the fuser starts letting toner stick and transfer to your prints. As far as cleaning, you can take the supplies out and blow out the interior, may help for a while.

I just changed the drum of the HL-2040. However, the drum light is still on and the error message says that the drum life is almost at its end.

Is this a NEW Genuine drum or one of those refurbished ones? Only genuine drums will work unless your were given some sort instructions on how to overcome the self check operation.

I have changed the toner in my printer and the toner light continues to stay on/won't print. I tried changing the drum and still the toner light stays on/won't print. I tried opening the toner door and...

No guarantee this will work but I refilled toner on my Brother 5170 and it only worked after making sure the old stuff was completely out. After removing the little plastic plug, I tapped out the toner repeatedly on the side of a trash can (like 50 times) then took a shop vac and let that **** out whatever toner was left. It really seems to be important for some reason to rid the cartridge of ALL old toner before adding the new stuff. Hope this helps!

this screw is not to be set but to be tightened as every other screw.
We service a couple of hundreds of these printers at work and i've never heard one of our field engineers that adjusted this screw.
With my printer here both screws are firmly tightened, and no fusing problems or paperjams at all so...
