From what I gather on other sites, your thread has to be threaded under tension.... You have to make sure you hear a click when your bringing your thread down to the bottom of the "arm". Also, I thought the bobbin case was rather loosely held in its place, I adjusted this by unscrewing the black plate and moving it over just a smidge. The bobbin is supposed to have some wiggle room, but it kept popping up and making the tiny adjustment seems to have done the trick....for now...

When you insert the bobbin case, make sure the "knub" on the bobbin case (#1) is just to the left of the position finger bracket (#2). It should sit in there nicely and you should be able to spin the hand wheel freely.
Let me know if you need more help,
Chris

If you go here and search for 9005, you can find a free downloadable instruction manual.

Make sure the bobbin case sets sort of on top and not under the ridge of the metal ring. There is a small latch on the upper left of the bobbin case. It is metal. rotate the latch to cover the bobbin case and this should stabilize the case without making it immobile

It must not be inserted right, check your manual and if you do not have it handy, go to singerco.com and download one for free. You can cause real damage if it is loose, so be careful that something isn't broken and not letting it seat right.
