Need pci modem drivers and audio drivers for vaio pcv rx404
Check this Sony's website:
Original Drivers Package
SOURCE: i don't have a recovery
if you go to the manufactures web site there is a phone number that u can call to order one it costed my mother about $25 but well worth it best of luck mike
SOURCE: will not read or burn dvd's
can it read or playback normal dvd's ie a movie that you have purchased from a shop or rented ?
If not then the dvd laser has gone in your dvd / cd rw drive in which case you need another dvd drive.
If it will play back normal movie dvds then that indicates that your computer can playback dvd's and hence the laser is working but maybe the other dvd drives / recorders are not closing the dvds correctly maybe ?
Not sure - some more info from yourself would help.

This is eSupport.Sony.com, and the page for the Sony Vaio PCV-RS420,
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=PCVRS420
Click on the + sign next to -> Audio (Sound) 1 files
You will now see ->
Original-ADI SoundMAX Audio Device Driver, Version 5.12.1.3622 for the Microsoft Windows Operating System <- in blue.
There is a globe with a green arrow to the right of this. Click on this globe/arrow icon.
You will be taken to another window. There is a globe/arrow icon, once more. Click on it.
Now follow the instructions.
Should a Microsoft 'Squawk Box' pop-up, ignore it. "Warning. This software does not have a digital certificate ya-da, ya-da"
It's from Sony, and I assure you it's safe.
Click on Run, and in the next small window, click on Run again. If you have problems, I suggest you come back and post an additional comment. We'll get it straightened out.
I suggest the Windows update may not be a good thing. Windows has thousands of generic drivers.
The key word here is "Generic"
They are not THE drivers made by Sony for THIS laptop. I suggest using THE drivers.

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall both the sound drivers and the sound card make sure you have both of these devices backed up to a disc before uninstalling
a yellow? question mark means you need to install/update driver to do this
right click to install driver also
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

SOURCE: does my sony vaio pcv-rz50cg have pci express slot?
From the information available on the Sony eSupport web site for this discontinued model of Sony Vaio, it seems unlikely that it would have a pci express slot given the model dates back to around 2004 and may not have any free expansion card slots depending on the exact multimedia options that are installed.
