I came across a hotpoint had error E220
it turned out to be the pump housing was cracked and leeking water back to the motor windings and they had gone short
and the brushes on the drum motor were worn away
replacing the pump rear section and the brushes
and resetting the error {hold in power btn power up at the mains}
cure it
i then had to come back too it and replace a faulty 1Amp triac and its driver transistor on the machines micro/control board
because although it worked aok the triac already had been damaged
and the increase in duty etc of the new pump
tipped it over the edge
replacing these two parts cure it for good
that was over a year ago and no new problems
