Because the reciever has a internal issue. you will have to call directv and get a tech to bring a new one. to redo, turn of reciever and when you see the blue light power press 02468/

turn to a channel you do not receive and at the bottom will the the card # or RID you can also pull the card out of the receiver and it has it on the back of the card.

Replacing the batteries if you have not already done so. Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly. If remote still does not work I recommend calling dtv and asking for a replacement remote that is available for purchase. Call 1 800 531 5000 for customer service. Call from the phone number that is listed on the account for easier access to an agent.

the cabling can go bad. often, it is the hdmi cable that goes bad.

from what i'm aware of directv they can reimburse you up to 15 or $20 if you have to purchase cabling if you have the protection plan. may want to double check w/ them to find out if this is still the case. hope this helps.
