Why can't I connect to an hp wireless keyboard/mouse to csr 4.0 dongle?

The thw wireless mouse is paired from fabric wirh USB dongle for same mouse. You can't connect a wireless keyboard to it because they are no different frequency. Actually it's hightly improbable that you even could connect the USB dongle of a mouse with another different mouse. Explanations is logical: presumeyou are in a big office whate another 1 users have wireless keyboards or "mice". Now, imaginge the mess if the dongle of your keyboard should control the mouse of another 9 usrs.
Now, it's competely different with bloetooth keyboards and"mice"

Is this an HP Wireless Keyboard & Mouse? If so, I would recommend uninstalling the driver and installing the most up-to-date driver for your version of keyboard and mouse. You could also try connecting the wireless dongle to another USB port on your computer, but if you are receiving an error, the problem is driver related.

what does that mean.?

my guess is the wireless mouse batteries are dead, then...
on HP wireless USB receiver is dead. or lost. (or wrong one used)
or drivers for it missing, (get them at HP.COM)
mouse has bottom switch ON/OFF, , ON is best.
rare most, see lots sold used with no receiver at all. sad that.

I'm not sure can I help you, I had same issue with logitech, I couldn't solve issue, until I found program (app) that had option to connect them, search on hp for application.
Logitechs one is called SetPoint.

I'm afraid the the dongle is proprietary and only works with that particular mouse. You can however purchase a separate wireless keyboard and it shouldn't interfere with the mouse.

Here's a quick checklist to resolve your wireless mouse connection.

Solution 1.
1. If the underside of the mouse has an on/off switch, make sure to set the switch to the "On" position.
2. Make sure that the battery of the wireless mouse is placed correctly and is not drained.
3. After checking the first two steps, the optical lens on the underside of your wireless mouse should be flashing once in a while. If not, there is something wrong with the battery, the wireless mouse switch, or the wireless mouse itself is defective.
4. Connect the USB dongle in the USB port and let it install automatically.

Solution 2.
5. Connect the USB dongle in another USB port and let it install automatically.

Solution 3.
6. Restart the computer with the wireless mouse turned on and the USB dongle inserted in the computer.

Look under a mouse, there might be some small "connect" or on/off button there. Push it, and look for same button on dongle...
Also check mouse batteries.

Unless you can find not only the exact part number but a dongle with the exact same serial number its not possible.Having the same issue.I say shame on HP for creating this issue by not wanting to sell type specific replacements to resolve this problem.They would prefer that you buy an entire new set. There is a button on the bluetooth dongle that needs pressing to get the mouse & keyboard operating, I think I got them to work when the little long blue light on the dongle (there is one) it flashes for a brief time when pressed. I think if the mouse or keyboard button is pressed while its flashing it picks them up. Good luck, it was very tedious, I agree.
