You could run both with dialup, but would be horribly slow. I think I used a switch, shared both machines. What version of windows are you running? Yes, need more information..You could run both with dialup, but would be horribly slow. I think I used a switch, shared both machines. What version of windows are you running? It is clear you have not setup encryption within the router. You need to access your router, go into the router setup and setup security normal wpa2 or wep pending your computers and operating system in use. It will ask you for a secret passkey to enter. Without having this setup any one can cannot to your wireless router. But once the passkey has been setup only you will be able to access it. Very easy fix. if your do not know how to access your router control follow the instruction manual that cam with it, it is normally well explained or just contact me again. regards Hands of Time.
Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS; originally Wi-Fi Simple Config) is a flawed network security standard that attempts to allow users to easily secure awireless home network, but some networks using this standard could fall to brute-force attacks if one or more of the network's access points do not guard against the attack.[1][2]
The router is clear (Router Setup cannot run over a wireless connection) NEVER try to setup the wireless settings trough the wireless connection on ANNY router (I'm impressed it is a verry intelligent router) a lot of routers will permit wireless setup trough wireless but obviously this one wont
Connect a CAT5 patch cable from one of the router's ethernet ports to your computer, than setup your wireless connection...
You need to unplug your computer from there and plug your router in the same place instead. The WAN port or uplink port should be connect there. Then you can plug your computer in any of the LAN port on your router. Usually you don't need too much setup, just restart the modem from your Internet service provider, wait for half minute and restart your router, then wait for half minutes and restart your computer. The manual of your router or the support section of the manufacturer of the router should have some instructions about how to set up the router. If you need more details, send me an email and I will let you know. [email protected]
WEP or WPA Key is the password for your wireless network.. it's the same password you used to connect your laptop to the wireless.. if yo forgot what it is, you might need to contact the manufacturer of the router or your internet service provider to reconfigure or re-setup your wireless network.. hope this helps a bit.
Plug a network cable into the back of your PC and Router. The usually the default router page is http://192.168.1.1
Go to that page in a browser on your PC once you have conectivity. Try using 'admin/admin" to login, if that doesn't work try "Administrator/Password" keep trying a few different combos until you login to the router config page. From there you should have a section to setup the WEP/WPA key. Once you establish the security key you can set it up in your wireless lan card of your laptop.
if you have a softwere cd for the adapter place it in cd rom instaling it all, before you setup wireles instal router wired to configure security, then setup wireless connection.
Withouth knowing the exact model I dont have specifics, but the scanner attacks can usuually be prevented or at least minimzed by a setting in the router that prevents pinging. Some models are better at this than others. Is the unit setup with a passkey? and if so do you know the method?
