You will need to send the laptop to acer for repair service. they will re-flash the bios update to get the laptop working again.

you simply don't have the tools required to do it at home.

UPDATING THE BIOS IN AN ADVENT 4489

NO OS told
dumped PC fails.
it's super old.
the makers is gone, now. (but we learned it is MSI , in sheep's clothing.
The batteries are no good. (bad)
do not run those DOS batch files, you will make it worse , I promise
did the kid tell you to upgrade BIOS on a dead PC, well that is silly as that is RULE #1 do not flash BIOS on any SICK PC. oK???? rule 1 ignored gets you a bricked PC as d this rule,

the PC exact model must match the binary.ROM file and the last update was 2008 !

only the MSI version matters, your OEM is dead.

anything newer will brick the PC as those are all from virus purveyors,, all.

here are the 10 way FLASH and brick any PC.

Dell latitude 6420

fresh post. jun 21, 2018 , anon
do not play with BIOS or risk , bricking it.

they tell you the battery must be there for the case of city AC power loss or bump or surge, its not optional.
unless bricking a good PC is fun. is it?
or use a UPS, on the AC pack line.

what does I need mean. explain that.
I can list 100s of reasons, many are not worth the risk.
the DELL forum you are not on has like 10,000 person bricking a good PC just for fun,,,,

here is the truth, if HP told you , it fixed a problem that YOU have
then flash BIOS. more later.. below.

I flash all the time 1000 times since the first days, of EEPROM.
but only for VALID REASONS.

rule one (mine) I flash with FREEDOS . if no F12.
If the BIOS has a built in FLASH update, this is better. F12.
never use windows ever to flash any EEPROM.
If fact I always look at how the flash runs. first. (no windows)
preemptive multitasking is wrong here.
your PC is 7 years old, 2011.
the newest bios is A25
the support page shows only and EXE file.
in 2012 the PC supports 1 time boot flash methods, F12.
F12 is a NO OS boot BIOS. BIOS then runs in F12 mode
that read the EXE and loads the new bios.
this is the most safe way.

the data sheet say this update only adds new processors.
the CVE , is and Intel chip bug, (exploit)
sure Id flash it but would buy battery first.
or borrow a UPS.
why risk any pc.
I hope yours used F12 method.
if not, risk is higher.
good luck flashing it,
seen many bricked , not one of mine ever.

How do I flash bios?

flashing BIOS is very manufacturer and machine model specific. Go to the manufacturers website - support and download section. there will be BIOS specific to your machine and instructions to download and install it. DO NOT get the bios from any source but the manufacturers website.
Good luck

P.S. a botched BIOS update will 'brick' your computer

When I try to update Bios on Toshiba Satellite A215-S7462 The computer 'locks up' (becomes completely unresponsive), and the computer's display goes blank (turns off).

Upgrading BIOS! If it isn't broken don't fix it. Upgrading is a scapegoat fix, and many manufactures have a disclaimer. "You are on you own", and the likes for a reason. Most solutions are found elsewhere. However, if you truly need to update read this to help you with the upgrade. You don't want to end up with a brick. http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10things/10-common-mistakes-you-should-avoid-when-flashing-your-bios/357

Can anybody help how to flash bios into a acer aspire 3680 using the usb?

Even with the automated (windows-based) BIOS updating software, this is not a small matter. I would make certain that you need the update for a specific problem before proceeding. Also realize that a failed or interrupted BIOS update may ruin the BIOS chip resulting in a much more costly and difficult repair. Don't jump into any BIOS update without doing your homework, making sure it's necessary, and make sure you get the correct BIOS for your PC. And make sure you don't interrupt the power once it starts! That will brick your computer for sure!

Our computer is telling us we need to update the BIOS computer shuts itself off

All BIOS components are serviceable via a firmware upgrade that is known as "flashing" this process is called "updating the BIOS". The process itself is fragile since any power fluctuation during a flash may irrevocably corrupt a BIOS' firmware. Great care will need to be taken in order to safely accomplish this.

This guide will help you flash your BIOS by taking precautions and walking you through each step. Not all computers will have the same BIOS manufacturer, let alone the same process, but many have similar steps and precautions.

Also check with your motherboard manufacturers website for specific BIOS updates and updating instructions. mpawlak908

Failed bios recovery on ASUS P5S800-VM using support cd

Hi there.

If you look on any support/bios update forum/website, you will find that flashing the bios is very risky. The reason it's risky is because of what you just described.

While flashing the bios, the bios chip memory is deleted and then the new bios is written. If you lose power, system crashes, or anything that interrupts the flashing process, the chip is rendered useless.

The computer turned off while flashing, and the reason there is no screen is because there is no bios to load. There is no way to reverse this or repair it.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and are confident with electronic components, you may be able to pick up another bios chip on the internet, but you will have to solder it to the board yourself.

Otherwise it's a new motherboard.

Sorry it wasn't good news
