Bootmgr compressed self fix

At times after enabling / disabling disk compression on Win 7 or Vista boot drive you may receive the Bootmgr is Compressed error upon restarting your computer as displayed below:

BOOTMGR IS COMPRESSED
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to Restart
1. After rebooting with OS DVD, choose "Repair your Computer" and then select "Startup Repair". Reboot your computer.
2. After rebooting, click on "Load drivers" button an explorer style window will pop up, go ahead and right click on the drive that may have been compressed and deselect `Compress this Drive'. Choose apply and then apply to subfolders/files before rebooting.

There are registry commands also that can be used. But the above 2 steps can be very helpful to start with.

Bootmgr is compressed Press cntrl+alt+del to restart

I hope you have the Operating System CD, Incase you have it then try booting from the CD and get to recovery console. Once you are in the Recovery console try typing the below mentioned commands and HIT enter after each line.

attrib bootmgr -s -r -h
del bootmgr
ren temp bootmgr
attrib bootmgr -a +s +r +h

if that doesn't fix then try

bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /fixmbr

this should fix the problem.
