This sounds like a bushing is seized or thread wrapped on the machine somewhere.

I have an older Bernina 910 that sews beautifully. However, I have not been able to move the f Ed dogs knob to lower the feed dogs. Any suggestions?

Yep. These older machines are great but they do love to be treated regularly to cleaning and oiling. Feed dogs are often one of the first to fail due to old oil. Then the stitch selectors will stop working, the handwheel may get stiff, and the needlebar will freeze.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

In sewing mode the motor turns but needle does not move. I have checked bobbin & upper thread - any help?

1. Try to turn the hand wheel. Does the needle move?
2. Make sure the center wheel on the hand crank is tight.
Try the hand wheel now. If you still don't have luck try this.
3. Loosen the center wheel on the hand wheel. There is a small screw on the center wheel on the front or side. Loosen it until it almost comes out.
4. Now tighten the center wheel. (clockwise) Does the needle move if you move the hand wheel? If it does you can tighten the small screw.
5. If this doesn't do the job you will have to take the cover to the motor off. The motor has a bolt to loosen. As you loosen the bolt you can move the motor until it tightens the belt and makes it aligned as well. Run the motor slowly with the foot pedal and adjust the motor until it operates at it's highest speed. Now tighten. Replace all covers.
6. The belt is sometimes in need of replacing but not usual. You will know when you take the panel off.

How to fix needle on a machine

Turn the hand-wheel counterclockwise until the needle is at the highest point. Lower the guide or presser foot. This will give the maximum room possible for working with the needle.
Turn the needle clamp screw counterclockwise until the needle comes loose. This screw is located on the side of the small
box, known as the needle clamp, that holds the needle in place.
Remove the old needle by pulling it straight down and then angling it outward. Place a new needle into the holding slot or needle clamp.
Tighten the new needle into place by turning the clamp screw clockwise until tight. Do not over-tighten the needle.

Here's a tip
Use a needle that is appropriate for the type of fabric you are sewing. Using the wrong needle may result in breakage and increase the number of needles to be changed
Over-tightening a needle can cause it to be crooked and break. Turn the clamp screw only until the needle feels stiff in place.

The hand wheel keeps falling off and now when i try the sew nothing happens, the needle does not move. all i hear is the sound ofthe motor but nothing happens

If the balance wheel is coming off which it should not do because it is held on by the belt then you have not tightened the stop motion in the middle of the balance wheel, make sure you have not lost the little screw in the middle if the balance wheel.

Handwheel on Sewing machine no longer moves needle.

Actually you should have a "set screw" in the hand wheel. The set screw is usally locked down tight to keep the hand wheel from spinning freely. I f you can run the machine slowly and hold the hand wheel in one place but the machine continues running, then you do need to replace the "set screw". If you replace it you will find that you can offset some of the machines vibration by where you lock the wheel down. Trial and error is the only way to achive this adjustment, kind of like balancing the tires on your car.

Needle won't grab bobbin thread

Check the position of the needle. Some machines have to have the needle in a certain way or they won't pick up the thread from the bobbin. Make sure the screw on the bobbin is tight but not to tight you may have to adjust it a few times to get it where it needs to be. Also make sure the bobbin is wound tight
