Why does my cobra 142 gtl make a huming soun when keyed up in am mode

Disconnect your internal speaker and see if it helps. Its a poor power supply filtering problem and it effects the speakerin many ways.check to see if it hums with only the external speaker attached.

dont go by colors.. go by what wires are on the switch and mic element.. mics can be rewired and no one told you the colors could have changed FYI..

Pin #1 ~ Audio
Pin #2 ~ Shield
Pin #3 ~ Receive
Pin #4 ~ Switch Wire
Pin #5 ~ Transmit

always go by connections not color of the wire. that way you learn and you can do any mic. to any radio.

My cobra 142 gtl loses power about two minutes after keying the mic.

hi

it looks like the output stage is going hot (99%)

maby the swr is high end eficiancy is low

usualy on ssb the power is higher than on am

Problems with Cobra 142 GTL

the diode and missing resisters are and caps are probably the culprits.

Radio is a cobra 142 gtl s/b turned on switch and no power, check fuse is ok.

Low dead key on my radio

If it is a 142 GTL your A.M. power is VR6 . Good luck and be carefull and DON'T get carried away remember AT YOUR OWN RISK NO LIFE GAURD ON DUTY!!!! You should'nt have any problems though......Dan

Cobra 142 GTL no dead key

Are you sure that you're on the AM mode? It sounds more like you're on LSB or USB. If you are on AM, the problem may be the power control (VR6) inside the radio.
