Hi! If you've replaced the turbine & gear assembly and the brushes are still not spinning, a replacement brush-block assembly may be needed. The brushes counter rotate and need each other to spin. If a single brush is falling out, the brush assembly is broken. If the whole brush assembly keeps falling out, the drive pin shaft may be damaged. To order a replacement brush-block follow the link below.

SOURCE: Brush assembly will not spin at all.

The turbine is bad, that is what drives the brush roll. You either replace it, sometimes you can take the turbine apart and clean it, alot of times they just get gummed up and won't work. Number 23 is the turbine.94b67a6.jpg

SOURCE: brushes won't spin on hoover steam vac ls

I have the SteamVac Dual and there's a screen on the underside of the unit. It's beneath the brushes and it's red. You have to pull and wiggle it to get it out. With the machine unplugged, lay the unit with the handle on the floor. In the owner's manual ( http://www.hoover.com/pdfs/manuals/F7222900.pdf ) this is shown on page 10 figure 3-2. Clean that screen.
If they still won't spin, then take the brushes out. Again, with the unit on the floor, you simply grab the unit firmly and pull towards you. It's much easier to remove than the screen. I took the brush unit outside and blasted it with the house. You'll have to pull out whatever fur balls are clogging it but eventually you'll see that the brushes spin freely with the water squirting on them. Plug the brush unit back in and - in my case - they started spinning.

SOURCE: help for free???? my spin brushes won't spin

I have the 7443-940, and on this one, the brushes are powered by the water coming from the water pump. If there is no water in the unit, they will not spin. I do NOT know if yours is the same way, but it's worth trying it out.

SOLUTION:
take the roller off and flip the thin belt inside out. This fixed my vac and works great again.

My dryson dc40 beater bar will not spin and there is no suction

The brush bar motor or one of the switches may be defective. If the brush is not spinning it will not pick up anything from carpet leading many to think it has no suction. Feel for suction down by the brush bar. If you have no suction it may have a clog or need new filters. Make sure the changeover valve that switches suction from floor to tools is working properly.

I have a spin brush Conair infiniti pro and the brush stopped spinning. How do I fix it?

Replace the brush bar you'll have new brush bar better clean than old brush with new bearing which aren't available or worth the bother fitting, ps keep the filters clean makes a real difference to sucking power.

The belt on my bissell powerforce compact keeps falling off the spindle. So its not moving the brush it stays on for a minute then falls off.

Either your belt has stretched beyond its specs or you have larger problems. Are you talking about a new belt? If not, try a new belt. If so, check to make sure the beater bar will spin freely without a belt attached. If it spins without a belt attached, make sure the bearing blocks at both ends are in good shape.

A burning smell when in use

Martinsivyer:

Turn the machine upside-down and see if you can turn the beater/brush bar with your hand. You should see the brush turning and feel the resistance from the motor. The brush/beater bar may be binding, and what you are smelling is the motor shaft spinning against the rubber belt. You can remove the base plate and check the brush/beater bar with the belt disconnected. If the brush/beater bar is difficult to turn, you need to remove the brush/beater bar and clean the bearings at each end, Remove any threads that are wound around the beater bar ends so that the bearings roll easily and smoothly. Check to see that your machine is not set too low for the surface that you are bacuuming. While you have the belt disconnected, check thi inside surface to see if the motor shaft has been spinning against the belt, you'll see the damage to the inside circumfrence of the belt.

Eats belts immediately

HI There,

Usually when the belt breaks immediately, this indicates that your roller brush has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I have never seen the motor shaft being damaged and causing belts to break before. When the roller brush can't spin because it's bearings have worn out, the motor shaft continues to try and turn the belt, but since the belt can't spin the motor shaft at that point burns right through the belt.

To make sure that it's your roller brush, remove the brush from the vacuum cleaner, and hold it using just your two pointer finger tips, holding just the bearings caps at the end of the bar, and not the bar itself.

Try to spin the brush using your thumbs. Does the brush spin freely without resistance? It should spin completely around 3-4 times on each spin. If it doesn't spin, then your bar is bad.

If the brush doesn spin, and it continues to break belts, this means that the belt is being installed incorrectly, and is being pinched by the roller brush. Pull the belt forwards after installing to make sure the brush spins freely.

Hope this helped you,

"brush bar spins erratically"

Belt needs to be replaced, it has stretched to the point that under load, it won't turn the brush roll like it should, so I would advise replacing the belt. And while you are doing that, check the brush roll and make sure the ends turn freely, if not, then replace it also. Then check the dirt inlet while you have the brush roll out.
