Can mount SD Ultra II in Vista but not in XP

Hi, I've just bought a 4GB SanDisk Ultra II for use with my Canon 640. Both images and video are fine when viewed under windows Vista. When I try to read the memory using Windows XP - I receive the message "Please insert a disk in the drive". This happens both with my desktop computer and also with my laptop. Please, have you any idea what's going on?

It sounds like thet are using different formats you can change the format of the information you can find this using a search engine or it might be that yiu will need to install the software for it as the vista version has all the latest software versions did you get any software with it and is the software for your canon 640 installed on this also try reinstalling all software then try again and see if that solved your problem as this does sound like a software problem maybe a corupt file or even could be a virus but i would try reinstalling the software first as this is often the case hope this is some help post back if still have problem...........................

SanDisk ULTRA II 8GB won't read when installed in a laptop. Works fine in the Digital camcorder. Trying to import the footage on to a Fujitsu tablet laptop (12 months old). Reads the standard 2Gb memory...

No, it's a hardware issue. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card (the HC stands for High Capacity), but the card reader in your machine is clearly only compatible with the older type SD cards. SDHC devices will accept SD cards, but devices designed solely for SD cards cannot read or format SDHC cards.

There is no firmware update for this, your only fix is to buy an external reader compatible with SDHC cards for connection via a USB socket. Most new readers are fully SDHC compliant, but check the specs for shelling out your hard-earned...

Some cameras cannot handle over 2GB memory cards. If it works fine with 2GB card - stick to that. If some other A620 you know operates with 4GB card, take yours to repairs.

Camera reads, computer doesn't

That is odd. Try the recovery software that comes with the sandisk cards and see if you are able to get them after that.
Do you format your cards each time in the camera before shooting?

Will Sandisk yltra II 4gb card work with Nikon D40?

I assume you mean Sandisk Ultra..and the answer is Yes it will work fine.

A good choice card also..

Just beware that some computers will need the SDHC reader.
For example my SDHC cards can be read in XP without the reader but my Vista machines need the reader.

Good luck and happy shooting :-)
