How is the traction cable adjusted on Toro Model 20027, Serial # 20005663. I'm replacing the cable and the new one is slightly different from the old one, but the Toro shop tells me it's the proper replacement. They said there is an adjustment than can fix the difference in length, but the lady did not know how to make the adjustment.

There is a large black plastic nut at the end where the cable attaches to the mower transmission. Turning it clockwise tightens the cable (engaging traction bar is tighter) and counter-clockwise is loosening the drive. If the cable is a little too long, you have to tighten it more.

SOURCE: I HAVE A TORO SP

It sounds like the cable still needs more adjustment. The cable needs to be tighter. This is going to be hard to explain by typing. But I will give it a try. When you pull the handle in about 1/2 way mark the place where the lever on the drive motor is at. And take the cable loose and reattach the cable back to the mark that you made previously. So when the bar is released, it is like it is pulled in half way now. I hope that this makes sense. Let me know if I need to try to explain more.

I have ordered and received a new traction cable for my Toro Recycler Lawn Mower. However, no instructions. How do I attach this cable so that the mower is once again self propelled?

That can be a tough one the cable that houses the throat cable is the secret to make it work. Look at your old cable and make sure it is in stalled in the same position and work backwards until it works . If the cable is not adjusted right you can not get full power.

Toro lawnmower model 20027. The engine starts fine, but goes to full rpms. I have closed the throttle with my finger but it goes back to full rpm operation. Everything seems fine on the mower. i just got...

"Most likely you'll have to remove the bowl nut, under the carb's bowl. You'll most likely find varnish in the jet, or maybe water. These are some typical jets, Tecumseh. Briggs, similar" (baymee LehighValleyPA, 2009).

I'm going to try this tomorrow myself!

How do you replace a drive cable on a toro recycler 6.5 hp.

Its a bit of a pain - but with ordinary tools, it can be done. Get the replacement cable first. You can see how the bottom spring wraps around the cable with a universal joint sort of arrangement. Remove the belt protector (three screws from the top deck; if you have a battery compartment, that will temporarily need to go. Release the old cable from the top and middle attachment points, then unhook the spring from the traction lever. You might need to destroy the old cable lock to the mower deck to remove the old cable. Remove the plastic cup next to the cable where it exits the mower deck. Replace parts in this order: New spring/cable to the traction lever, snap in plastic interface to mower deck, small plastic cup top cable attachment, then middle attachment. You might need to move the middle attachment after you give it a test run. Replace belt cover and battery compartment if necessary. A lot of steps but, except for a difficult fit to get the spring hooked up, nothing is really difficult. I paid about $30 for the replacement cable from a local dealer; Overpriced, but I wanted to get the job done today.

How to adjust the Toro 826 snow thrower

Belts will have spring tension on the idler pulleys.
Both traction and auger control cables will also have cable length adjustments to cause the travel of levers or idler pulleys to tighten belts. Adjustments are commonly located under the control panel/levers.

Traction Belt (new) continues to slip off of drive plate.

Sounds like you may need to replace the pulley as well. It has likely worn out of specification.

I recommend that you contact your nearest authorized service center, or contact Toro directly for assistance.

I trust this information proves useful.
