Put the non-registered handset in the master base unit. Unplug the base unit for about 10 seconds and plug it back in. Wait for a message to change on the handset and press and hold the handset locator button for 4 seconds. This will re-register the handset. Do not remove the handset from the base while performing the above steps. Good Luck!
The directions to register the extra set are incomplete. I had the same problem. First push the find button on your base until the inuse light flashes. Then push menu on the cordless unit until it says please wait, make sure it says on the cordless unit to push the find button first, then place it in the charging cradle and it should register.
Sounds like the antenna on the base station is not receiving, or the cordless handset is not transmitting -OR- the sets have never been registered to the base station (please look up registering to base station, if the set has never been registered)
Did the cordless set work before?
The base station or the handset may just have a hick up, I would un-plug the base station and leave it un-plugged... now get all the cordless set(s), and take out the batteries from the cordless set(s). Wait for about 15 seconds for all the power to drain out of the sets, then re-install the batteries.
Once all the cordless sets are back up and working, plug in the base station and wait for about 1 minute. This forces the base station to re-establish and link between the base station and the cordless sets.
Please check that you have correctly registered the second handset to the base. It may be necessary to de-register the second handset and then re-register it. "Out of range" just means the second handset is not within range of the base phone it was registered to.
Try this, Push and hold the "End" key, while still pushing the "End" key push in the "#" key and hold both keys till you hear a beep. The LCD display should now say "De-register Handset" and under that "Base Unavailable" Select Base unavailable. The LCD should now say "Handset not registered, place in base" Just set it in the charging cradle on the base unit and it should register to the base.
Each handset has to sit in the base cradle for at least 15 seconds to register. It should say ready within a few seconds. Same thing after the power shuts off. All handsets have to be re-registered in the main base set.
