Are you using natural gas or propane (LP)? It sounds like you may need to change the orifice size on the gas lines going to each burner. If you are using LP and have the orifice set for Natural gas, the flames will burn higher and hotter, causing heavy soot. Under each burner, there should be a small nut with a hole in the center at the end of the gas line. The hole for Natural gas has a slightly larger diameter than one for LP. Your stove should have come with extra orifices as part of a conversion kit. Could this be the case? There's also another orifice in the main gas regulator in the back of the stove. Have you checked to see if the orifice for the regulator is set correctly? Does the oven burn hotter than usual with heavy soot, too? If you could please answer these questions first, I can give you better advice. Let me know...

SOURCE: ge spectra gas stove top not lighting

If your top burners are not lighting or will not work, it is possible that the burners have become dirty or wet. Please follow the troubleshooting directions below before calling service:

  1. Turn you burner to the Lite position:

If you hear clicking or sparking, go to Step 2.

If you do not, check your circuit breakers. If the circuit breaker is ok, we recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

  2. Clean the burner and electrode:

First remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Use a needle or paper clip to poke through the holes on the burner head. Re-assemble and try the burner.

Remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Even if it looks clean, wipe the tip of the electrode with a clean, dry paper towel and PRESS IT DOWN. Re-assemble and try the burner, again.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 3.

  3. Re-assemble - Make sure that each burner top matches its burner bottom. The burner top will lay flat if put on correctly.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 4.

  4. The spark igniter is operating properly, but the burner is still not lighting. At this point, we would recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

SOURCE: GE Profile gas range

hello dreeden5
Ngafm at your service,

You have a GE Profile oven range. I and you just cleaned it and the pilot light on all four burners continues to click on and off.

It sounds like the gas line or the gas valve, have some debris in them!
They need to be evacuated by an experienced tech.
This time you need service.

Bless You ngafm
Please give me a good rating at this sight before you leave!
Thank You

SOURCE: GE gas range igniter continues to spark, won't shut off.

Often times, just leaving the range unplugged for a time will solve the problem, which is most often caused by water or a cleaning agent getting into an igniter switch behind a burner knob. After the switch drys out it usually starts working again. In the mean time, you can still use the burners by lighting them manually with one of those long lighters, but you will not be able to use the oven or broiler without electricity. If the range continues to spark after being left unplugged for more than a day or two, you will have to determine which switch behind the burner knobs is causing the problem. Please don't bother rating, as anything but a Fix-Ya will lower my score. Thanks.
