How to remove ge spacemaker xl

You want to take the microwave off the wall, is that correct. 1st unplug the microwave--plug should be in the cabinet over the microwave. Next--in the same cabinet you should see 2 or 3 phillips head screws with big heads going through the bottom of the cabinet into the microwave top. Have someone hold up on the microwave while you remove the screws. They are about 3 inches long. Once the screws are out, the microwave should tilt forward and downward at the front. The back of the MW sits on 4 tabs on the wall mount plate so to get it off completely you have to lift the back up slightly off the tabs about 1 inch. Feed the power cord down through the cabinet and you are done.

How do I remove my ge jvm 1653 microwave?

Clean out the cabinet above the micro wave and you will find 2 or 3 bolts that secure the unit (MW) to the bottom of the cabinet. They will normally be towards the front of the cabinet.
I always put a towel or cardboard over the surface of the range for protection and a place to set the MW once it is ready to come down.

Have someone either hold the MW up by putting pressure upwards on the front of the MW or take the screws out. (don't forget to unplug the MW)
Gently let the front of the MW fall forward about 6" to 8" and lift the back of the MW upwards and it will release from a mount that is attached to the wall.
You may feel a little resistance as it might be duct taped to the exhaust going up or out the back.
Be aware that these older micro waves can be a little heavy and it is recommended that 2 people are used to do this.

Will the template for JVM1790 be the same as earlier GE models?

Make your own template of the holes in the top of your cabinet and lay it over the new unit and see if they align. As long as your replacing GE with GE it probably will work.

I have a Ge spacesaver model #JVM1350 microwave that I picked up at a sale, and was wondering when installing if the bolts on top go directly thru the cabinet bottom or is there a bracket? Thanks

I assume you also have the wall mount plate with your oven.
That wall mount carries the bulk of the ovens weight and you normally do use the long screws to bring the front of the oven up to the bottom of the cabinet above the unit. Filler blocks made to fit and to the correct thickness ( to fill the gap between the bottom of the cabinet and the top of the oven) are usually made so that the oven 'nests' snuggly to the underside of that cabinet. Without templates to get holes properly lined up.. they aren't that easy to locate the clearance holes in that cabinet. You can get user manual and installation details at this GE website..
