SOURCE: Don't have a full screen on my dell b120 laptop

First check the resolution:
Right click desktop
Go to properties
Go to last tab (up top) and slide bar all the way to the right.

If that doesnt work, reinstall the graphics drivers.

You can restore your system in your safe mode.
To use System Restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to Windows as Administrator.
  2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
  3. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
  4. On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.

Note A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
  5. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
  6. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page is displayed.
  7. Click OK.
If you successfully restored your computer to a previous state, and the computer is performing as it should be, you are finished.

SOURCE: Black Screen Dell 600 Laptop

Hi,
The display drivers maybe corrupt.

Boot the machine into safe mode. Right click on My Computer (XP) Computer (Vista) and select manage from the sub menu.
When the window pops up select Device Manager.
A device list will populate. When it has look down the list for Display Adapters. Click on the + icon next to Display Adapters to it expands. Right click on the display adapter and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and let it boot in normal mode.
If it boots in normal mode let it detect the Display and install the drivers for it.
I would be a good idea to update the display drivers via the Dell support website.

If it still won't display in normal mode please post back.

Good luck.

My lenovo laptop G50 after loading windows screen goes black

Need to re-install Windows or:
- go into SafeMode and get rid of display driver (uninstall it); it could be possible that you have an update, and the new driver don't fit with your hardware. You could make something as "rollback driver". Anyway, you need to re-install your original video driver.

Reinstalled Windows 7 on Dell 5720 now have black border on display

connect an external monitor/tv/display and look at the patterns of the external display. If it's clean, that means your display is the one damaged. Reinstalling windows won't help at all.
Try touching, moving, pulling, pushing the display from the top edges, and if you see any change on that border, you can tell the cause.
Usually the cause of this black bands to appear are for miss using the opening or closing of the displays, that is, using one corner to open or close the screen.
Hope that helps.

Borders on external monitor after Dell Latitude D630 wakes from sleep

Thomas Motley,
Your monitor is displaying like it is because the graphics card refresh rate has changed. Check that the display driver is correct for your graphics card and that you are not using the generic windows driver. If the driver is correct then look in desktop properties, settings, advanced, monitor and check that the refresh rate is correct for you monitor.

Screen resolution change = black border around small screen

Once you change the resolution to a smaller size and you see the black border, go into the monitor's menu and there should be settings for the Horizontal and Vertical size/position. Adjust those until it looks correct.

I hope this helps :)
