It will not turn on, it will not charge, I can not get my video tape out of the camera. It was working fine and the battery was getting low, when I plugged it in it didn't charge it just shut off.
Maybe the charger is not working. Can you check it with a multimeter? Or the camera was damaged, or some blown fuse.

I have the same problem. Worked for 3 years and now the battery charges to green but goes dead immediately. I've changed batteries. Its the camera not the batteries. Works fine plugged in. Obviously the cameras are not charging the batteries. Canon must know but I cannot find a fix and warranty is over. I guess buying the expensive camera of the day isnt always assuring you of quality.

Did this for the same problem on the PowerShot A570 IS and it worked wonderfully (thanks to other poster): For the PowerShot A 430: Take out the batteries, then hold down the power button for 30 seconds or more, then reinstall the batteries. Problem solved!

Hi, Has anyone resolved this issue yet, I have a powershot s2 IS with the same issue - i replace the batteries with brand new duracell's and it says replace batteries i reseat the batteries and it works for a few pics if im lucky then says replace batteries again - any help would be appreciated - Canon offers no solution.

I had this on mine. If you pen the battery compartment door, you will see a piece of plastic labelled "CR1220". You can pull this out and replace the little CR1220 battery that it holds. That ought to solve your problem.
