Air Switch Repair
It sounds like you have a bad air switch located in your motor.
The air switch is what the air hose connects to on the back of the motor or on the box on top of the motor. The other end of the air hose is connected to the air button on the lip of the tub.
This is a latching air switch and when you push the air button it latches to send power to the motor. When the air button is pushed again it opens the latch in the air switch and stops power going to the motor shutting it off.

Dryer will not stay running starts when start button is pushed will stay running if button is held in but stops as soon as button is release

Centrifugal switch in the motor is either bad, or a wire is disconnected or burned off. Be careful and disconnect electricity before checking. You will have to flip the top and remove 4 screws to remove front panel to get at motor. The centrifugal switch will be a black Bakelite assembly at the rear of the motor. Sometimes it is easier to just replace the motor.

Dryer won't stay running without holding down the start button

It may be the centrifugal switch on the motor. The push button starts the motor and as the motor spins up to speed the centrifugal switch closes to keep the motor running. Hope this helps.

Dryer won't stay on

The motor centrifugal switch is not switching from the start winding to the run winding. The switch should stay in the run winding when the motor picks up speed unless power to the motor is interrupted or cut off. The switch is replaceable on most dryer models but sometimes it is an integral or built-in part of the dryer motor and failure of the switch requires the replacement of the motor. Indicate the exact model number of the dryer for more accurate troubleshooting and repair advice.

Push the start button but will not stay running

Sounds like you have bad run windings on your motor. Holding the start button continues to send power to the start windings. When you release it the power should kick over to the run windings. You will need a new motor. _MJ_

Must hold start button to run. no heat

disconnect power and remove lid. Test the door switch w a volt meter do so opening and closing the door not pushing switch if circuit stays open try pushing switch with finger. If pushing closes circuit then adjust switch. If circuit stays open replace switch. If switch operates with no problems then it is the motor. Check all connections and vacuum lint from motor

Dryer wont stay running

Either the motor relay, or if this is an evenheat dryer, the evenheat control board could be bad.
