Why does my Kenmore 80 series not spin?

My Kenmore 80 series washing machine stopped spinning during a spin cycle. I had the machine paused with the lid up adjusting the load. When I lowered the lid it made a sound like something snapping or breaking. Now it no longer spins. It does still make a noise like the motor is turning.

Drive belt probably snapped...if you want to fix it yourself to save money...google the model make of machine along with the part you require and add Amazon...which should link you to Amazon to enable you to bug replacement part...same goes for finding replacement items on EBay.....if you take thenrear panel of the machine off..then you will see if the belt has broken or simply slipped off.

SOURCE: Kenmore Series 70 Washer Model 110

That would be your lid switch that has went bad.  Remove the console caps, then remove the two screws that hold it down (sometimes these screws are in the rear of the console)  Rotate the console out towards you gently, then fold it up and over the top of the unit.  You see 2 gold colored hold down clamps on top, and either side of the unit.  You will also see a wire and disconnect going down through the cabinet on your right hand side.  Disconnect these wires (be sure unit is unplugged) and rotate the whole cabinet towards you.  You remove the two screws that hold the switch in place and a 5/16" screw underneith that holds the ground wire.  Unclip the connector from the rear top of the cabinet and remove the switch.  Be sure to bring your whole model number 110.************** when you get the new part, there are two of these, and they look the same except the wire ends are different.  Good luck    Jim

SOURCE: kenmore series 80 washer makes loud knocking noise during spin cy

Unless your front loader is set firmly on concrete and leveled to perfection, the force of a heavy wash load spinning in excess of 1000rpm will create a bit of vibration and noise.A firm footing is your best defense against to much movement.
Also due to the earlier movements during the spin cycle, the shocks that are used to dampen the spin cycle might have been broken or damaged.
If the problem persists inspite of proper levelling, please do check for the shocks or might have them replaced them for good.

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 Series washing machine - loud banging at end of spin

With the lid open, set the cycle to spin and press the lid switch button with a pen. Wait until the drum gets to full speed and release the lid switch. If the drum makes a knocking/ thumping noise and doesn't stop spinning within 2-3 seconds, the basket drive block is worn and needs to be replaced. (The basket drive block is located on the gearcase drive shaft, under the tub and agitator) If this has been happening for a long time you may need to replace the brake and drive tube assembly as well.

Basket drive block part number is 389140

If that's not it, let me know and I will try to help you further.
Good luck!

Kenmore 80 series will spin when draining, but not agitate or spin during spin cycle.

Hello. I'm a little confused at the description of the problem. You indicated it, "will not agitate during wash cycle or spin during the spin cycle." But later in your description you indicated, "It will however, drain and spin after wash cycle and during the rinse cycle." I'm not sure if you description was an error but it sounds like you will need to replace the coupling which is part number 285753A.

My Kenmore, 80 Series, washer stops at the spin cycle; I open the lid push the knob in and then close the lid and it restarts, but this happens everytime I wash clothes. What is wrong with the machine? Is...

Most likely a bad timer.
Set the machine to wash.
When it gets to the spin cycle it should pump out the water.
Then there will be a PAUSE(silence) from the machine for several seconds. During this time the transmission will engage the spin gears(audible sound).
If there is NO PAUSE the timer is bad.
When you open and close the lid you are artificially creating the pause.

Kenmore washing machine will not drain

Replace the timer.
This is a neutral drain machine. If there is no natural pause in the timer at the end of the rinse cycle the timer is bad.

Washer kenmore series 80 after wash or rense cycle wont start to spin when dumping water. Sears repair man says that is normal and I say it used to spin. what is the problem?

There is no problem, unless the drum doesn't spin at all.
In a wash or rinse cycle there is a neutral drain just before the spin. During the neutral drain, the drum does not spin. If you open the lid or pause the timer during the neutral drain, the motor will stop (same as the short pause just before the actual spin) and the "kicker" in the transmission will disengage the brake. At this point the drum will start to spin. The neutral drain prevents wear and tear to the transmission since the drum will be very heavy while it's full of water and wet clothes.
If it doesn't spin at all, you may have a problem with the motor coupling, the brake/clutch assembly or the transmission.
Hope this helps to clarify things.
