Fridge humming and hot to touch between fridge/freeze (side-side)

My whirlpool just started making a humming sound - sounds like the fan, the sound is not constant, kinda of teeters like the fan is trying to gain strength and run silent. Also, I have noticed that occasionaly th ecenter metal strip between the fridge and the freezer (I have a side by side) is very, very hot to the touch.

It sounds like your compressor is going bad. The part you mentioned being hot is normal.

Refrigerator not freezing in the garage

You have to do these checks. Check for build up on the condenser coil behind the fridge. Check for MASS build up of frost in the freezer section. If you have that, unplug the unit for 3 days and let it defrost. You will have to check the parts on your evaporator to see if they're operating properly. Also make sure the compressor is even running. Try turning the fridge on. If you're not getting a hum out of the compressor but can hear it clicking, you more than likely have bad start components on the compressor. Also if the compressor isn't running, try tapping on the temp display/thermostat where you adjust the temperature if it starts, you probably have a bad thermostat. The fridge sounds like its been running for 2 days and it's dead hot in the unit, you have a system problem and should consider buying a new one.

My samsung fridge/freezer is only 3 years old, just started making loud noise, then when the fridge is opened sounds like the fan making a loud noise that goes down and stops. Then not long after that...

Compressors usually make a thrumming/humming noise, so yes, this sounds like the fan. It could be something touching the fan blades, like ice or a wire. If you can unplug the fridge and remove panels near the fan, you may discover the problem.

Panel between fridge and freezer very hot and no sound at all

Hi: Its just a coincidence you noticed it then. It is usually hot. It's the reverse side of the refrigerant (the hot side.) If you lived in a humid area the fridge would sweat. Water would run down between the doors. I live in a dry climate so no worries. Older fridges used an electric heating element to keep them dry. They also had an energy saver switch to turn it off. As Whirlpool uses the hot side of the refrigerant they don't use additional power to run the heater. Actually the heater is called a mullion heater. Nothing is wrong with your fridge. I'll look over my shoulder for angry retailers. Hope this helps, Jeff.

Dont know about the noise prob. but I can help with the over heating cabinet. Your condensing coil is dirty and needs cleaned. it is located under your refrigerator or behind the back panel. You should use a brush and vac. it out. Air must travel through the tubing freely in order to cool properly. It should be easy to find following the tubes coming out of your compressor.

Trio: humming and temp in freezer rising

It sounds like the condensor fan motor is seizing up. This is the fan that cools the compressor down. Does the outside of the fridge feel excessively hot to touch? Can you feel air being circulated under the fridge or behind the fridge? It could also be a faulty defrost timer. Try to identify where the buzzing is coming from and if it is the condensor fan you can put a normal standing fan behind the fridge, blowing onto the compressor untill the repairman can get to you.
