I have a saeco milk island and it is only just heating the milk, no froth, what is the problem. I have cleaned all of the parts but still no froth! The coffee machine is a saeco taleo touch.
I found that to make a good seal between the milk island and the base, it helped to wet the nipple at the base slightly just before putting the milk island on. This seems to help it make and keep a tight connection. Prior to doing this half the time when we would put the milk island on the light would turn to red shortly after we started frothing.
This site has been very helpful as I have run into the same problems...the unit worked for about two weeks and then only hot milk - no froth. Took the milk island back and they gave me a new one - again it worked for about two weeks and then no froth. Totally frustrating. I look up the problem and found this site - I was happy because I found I was not alone in my frustration. So I completely took the milk island apart (the components in the carafe) there are 5 components - I don't know what they are called but there are 5. I washed all the parts and dried them. Then I looked for small holes to clean ( I used a flash light) and found 4 small holes (pin size) I used a toothpick to clean these holes. I then reasembled the parts and the unit worked as if it were new. It continues to work...we just have to spend the time to clean all the parts including the holes. (I think that if the holes become clogged with milk residue it will not make the froth).
As you can tell I'm not great at explaining this - the important part is to clean all the pin sized holes - there are 4 of them. Find them...clean them and it will work. Hope this helps.

I've given up and returned it the unit. What I thought would be a time-saver turned out to be a huge cleaning problem. It's just easier to froth it the old-fashioned way. When Saeco redesigns the milk frother to fix this problem, I'll be one of the first to try it... till then, my paranello works just fine.
Solution #2 is the correct way of cleaning it. Brought mine about a month ago, April 2008, 2 weeks later, all I got was hot milk. Took it back, and basically they cleaned it.
You have to clean the 'black triangular part with the rubber nozzle'
1) pull out the jug from the bracket
2) on top, pull off the triangular part
3) very light rinse it, DONT loose the rubber nozzle
4) let it dry completely
5) give it a sharp blow to purge any moisture/water which is inside the rubber nozzle
thats it.
Done it 4 times now and still works fine.
Molly -- re: position of grey plug. I don't think this makes any difference at all. The key issue is to make sure those two slots are clear of debris or moisture. One month on and I have continued to achieve thick frothy milk purely from rinsing the milk island parts under a running tap, leaving them to dry, and then giving a short sharp blow to the two slots in the valve before reassembling.

I agree with the poster that the key item is the little black plug (referred to as the valve in the supporting documentation). My milk island frothed beautifully for 2 months before gradually decreasing until I was getting just hot flat milk every time.
The valve has a dark grey pointed rubber plug which is possible to pull out and clean, and is fitted back in the hole by poking it back in. But what I found made a huge difference were the two slots/holes in the top of the valve piece. In my case they were clogged up (invisibly) with dried milk. As soon as I used a needle to unclog and clean the holes under a running tap, it got back to frothing again.
Whenever I use the milk island, I make sure I rinse and clean all parts immediately after use, leave them to dry, and before putting together again give the two holes in the valve a brief hard blow to clear it of water. The whole cycle takes about 30 seconds at most.
I tried cleaning the thing throughout, and drying it on paper towels, but still no froth. Luckily, I bought the machine from a reputable dealer with superb integrity. He fixed the problem for me by returning the milk island and getting me a new one. It works perfectly now.

Me too. Like one of the other people, it started after 2 weeks. The first two weeks the milk foam was far better than I was expecting. It was fantastic. My machine also has a clunking pump noise for either steam or milk island. This may be normal.... does anyone know?
Yes have solved the problem. You need to pull the milk island apart totally and rinse it. Leave all parts out to dry overnight on a paper towel, especially the little black plug that comes from on top of the milk island (after you take the holder off). This little black plug is the frother and if it stays moist it will not froth. You do not need to pull the black plug out of the holder just rinse it and place all parts of the frother on a paper towel to dry completely.

I've tried to clean and dry every little piece, and it didn't work.
So I went back to the store, and they gave me another Milk Island, wich started working perfect.
But only worked OK for a week...
I've searched over the Internet, and this is the only place that somebody else has the same problem...I'll bookmark, and I'll be back for solutions.

I have the same problem. The froth was excellent to start off with. Then suddenly one day about 2 weeks after we got the machine, the milk gets hot but no froth. Tried different milk types etc......please help
I thihk I've fixed it. As marnei says, this is a cleaning problem. You must be sure that the plug he says, and the hole in the holder must be perfectly clean.
To clean that, I use a thin brush.
If you do that usually, you'll get a perfect froth.

I have cleaned as per solutions offered here...can you tell me whether or not the grey valve needs to be put back in place in some specific fashion ie: parallel or perpendicular to the two slots on top?

I've given up. Two weeks after getting a new frother, I got the same problem. Cleaning, rinsing and drying the milk frother is all more work than simply using the steam wand. Frothing milk isn't supposed to be this difficult. This is too bad because the machine is fantastic otherwise and I would still recommend it. The milk island has a serious deign flaw and Saeco should fix it.
hello capp-lovers, i too, experienced the flat froth, broken base rubber tip, missing carafe problems. for what it's worth, saeco came out with a milk island version 2. probably going to buy it since there's no way of fixing the broken base rubber tip and will issue a report.
