How much oil does a biggs and stratton p470 need

You should have a fuel shut off solenoid on the float bowl. With a test light see if you have voltage going to the wire with the key on, if you do remove the solenoid and check to see if the plunger retracts with the key on. You will need to ground the solenoid to the engine or a engine bolt. If it does not this is your issue.

Usually the 450 series only a recoil starter....a pull rope to start it. Meaning you have to pull the starter rope to start it.

which second hose are you refering too? the breather hose or the vent hose?

Use 10W30 weight oil. The capacity is 1.5 Quarts (48 ounces) with filter change. I highly recommend you use 100% synthetic oil in an air cooled engine. Change the oil and filter every 50 hours of use.

make sure you have the correct amount of oil in it and that its not overfull. after that replace the points and condenser underneath the flywheel that is underneath the shround on the top of the motor. make sure the points are gauged right. you can buy a manual for biggs and straton that will tell u what to gauge the points at. you will need "feeler gauges" to re-gauge the points. they are a little set of gauges that are really thin pieces of spring metal.

you my have a broken rod pull spark plugs out and see if pistons are moving,if so check for bent push rods,if push rods aren't bent then you may have bad cam
