It is in the front middle of the hinge area, visible with head raised. Clockwise to lower and anti clockwise to raise. Head height is set with flat paddle to just clear the bottom of the bowl when head is locked down.

SOURCE: k45ss kitchenaid stand mixer, i took out the brushes

jrichards - I hate it when that happens! It seems that power is not getting to the armature from the brushes so I would suspect that one or both of the brushes is (are) not seated properly. Did you remove the brushes to replace them or were you just inspecting them? I'd suggest removing them again and making sure the contacts are facing in the right direction to contact the armature. The concave contact face should be resting completely on the armature. If you've turned it 90 degrees too much, it wont' seat properly. I hope this helps... Howard, Burke, VA

It could be very easy. It maybe you have a the brush in the wrong way round or they have simply run out. They are on the sides under the black plastic caps. Although they will fit in the hole any one of 4 ways round, there is a key on one corner which means it will only go in one direction. Use a torch to look into the hole before you put it back in.
They shoud look like this : brush

Why ceramic is wearing off beater of kitchenaid mixer?

You need to adjust the head height. Raise the head and look into the hinge from the front of the machine. There is a single slotted screw there, anti clockwise to raise the beater from rubbing the bowl. Just enough to clear is all you need.

The height of the beater to the bowl is adujsted by the screw found when you tilt the head back.

Beater is rubbing the bottom of the bowl. How do i adjust the height

Tilt the mixer up, look at the joint where it connects to the stand under the "belly" of the mixer. You should see a small silver screw. Dialing it out will raise the head of the mixer, dialing it in will lower it.

My kitchenaid mixer seems to have dropped down to low in the bowl

Tip the mixer up and look for a screw on the hinge underneath the top part. Turn this screw counterclockwise about 2 turns and the paddle will clear the bototm of the bowl.

Bearings in the lifting head are worn out. the top won't lock down & the paddles are rubbing

I think what has happened is the head's position has dropped over time. If you left the head up there is an adjustment screw on the hinge visible from the front. This altered the height of the head when you lower it back down. Adjust it so the paddles no longer hit the bowl. Hopefully this will also fix the problem with your head locking into position as well.

The height of the beater is easy to adjust on the tilt-head model.  Tilt the head back, and look into the pivot from the front of the mixer.  You should see a screw on the hinge.  With a flat blade screwdriver, rotate this screw half a turn counter-clockwise to raise the beater height.  Lower the head and check that the beater does not touch the bowl.  Repeat until the adjustment is satisfactory.  To lower the beater closer to the bowl, turn the screw clockwise instead.

Beater is too low in mixing bowl. How do you adjust the height of the mixing head. There is a screw in the pivot, but it does not turn. Does this adjust the height?

The adjustment screw did work for me but I adjusted using the dough mixer instead of Flat Head mixer as specified (only-realized after reading the manual ;o).

After readjusting using the correct flat head, everything is happy again.

- manual, I don't need a stinking manual !!! ;o)
