PC Tools- How to clean your computer

  • Cleaning the Computer
If you've noticed that your computer's keyboard feels sticky or the monitor screen appears spotted under the light, it's time to clean these pieces before internal damage occurs. Cleaning your computer's keyboard does not require special knowledge or skill. But you should take precautions to avoid damaging the internal parts when caring for the external hardware.mike_alozie_0.gif

1. Unplug the computer and all accessories before getting started. Anytime you attempt to clean an electric appliance it is important to disconnect the power source to reduce the risk of electrocution or shock. After unplugging the keyboard and monitor, along with any accessories that may be plugged in, use a damp clean cloth to wipe all the cords that are connected to the monitor and keyboard and remove dust balls or hair, along with anything else that might cling to them.

2. Move the computer monitor and keypad to one side of the desk and wipe the area clean where the equipment usually sits. Be sure to wipe a large parameter around the monitor area and let it air dry completely before returning the keypad to that area. You might want to use a clean towel or dry cloth to rub over the desk to be certain it is dry, as dampness can damage the machinery or cause it to stick to the table's surface.

3. Rinse the damp cloth in clear hot water and wring it nearly dry. Gently wipe the monitor screen, including all the corners, to remove dust and spots. Then wipe the surrounding areas and framework of the monitor, including the indicator lights that show when the system is operating. Don't forget the back of the monitor as well. If you have a laptop computer with a top that folds down and closes, wipe the hinges carefully, using a cotton swab for grooves and the latch. Check the latch to see if it is sticky or closes readily.

4. Next, go over the keyboard with the cloth, lightly rubbing around each key and button. Wipe around the sides of the keyboard, catching the off and on switch and CD player. Then use a cotton swab to ease around the edges of each key and row to retrieve minute amounts of dust and crumbs. Carefully clean around the lights, plug openings, and speakers, as well as other areas of your computer. Check to be sure you are not leaving wet traces on the equipment, as this means your cloth is too damp and should be wrung out more.

5. Allow the machinery to air dry, or use a soft cloth to pat the keyboard and monitor dry. Don't use fabric with lint or that is tough enough to scratch the screen. Reassemble all the cords and parts when you are sure the entire unit is clean and dry.

Plan to clean the keyboard and monitor every month or two. You may want to schedule maintenance for an interior cleaning once or twice a year. A clean computer is more likely to work well and last longer.

How to Clean a Flat Screen TV?

Use a screen cleaning solution, very cheap little canister of anti static spray and usually comes with lint free cloth for light polishing.
Couple of quick squirts of solution then very gently wipe over the whole screen until all the dust has been absorbed and the wet streaks evaporate.
Don't need to go mad scrubbing, just light polishing.
A damp cloth is just as good but only damp and not dripping water, just wipe over screen. The only problem with that is it leaves streaks so just wipe over with a dry kitchen towel or something similar.

I have a combo tv/dvd model PLV31199s(or 5)1. The tv is fine but the remote won't do anything (volume/ch change). Replaced batteries but nothing seems to help. Can you.

Hi there,

Well it seems that you need a new remote for your TV, but first i suggest you to try cleaning your old remote. Please follow the below steps -
1. Take a screw driver (depends on your remote) and carefully remove the screws and keep it safe.
2. Remove the back cover with care and separate the key panel and the remote board(the circuit board)
3. Now place the circuit board above a paper and clear it with a soft dry cloth.
4. Take few drops of kerosene or any mild detergent on a damp cloth and gently wipe on the circuit board, you can see a blackish settlement on the cloth after you wipe it. its the dirt. Blow it manually or use a blower.
5. leave it aside for a minute. Then with a another dry soft cloth make a final wipe and ur remote is clean.
6. Now you have to properly place back the key panel and the circuit, after that close the back cover with care and re screw it. If further you have the same problem then it's sure that you need a new remote for your TV.

Good Luck!!

Thanks

How can I clean my screen. I have a 1990 colortrak 2000 46'' projection televion. Please help.

it is recommended to only clean with a dry cloth but does not always work.
Use a damp cloth Never spray water or polish on the screen it will run down between the screen and the frame and do damage. Damp means very lightly wet. Use a spray into the cloth and wipe and then dry. make sure the cloth is quite soft else it will scratch and mark the screen

Samsung LCD screen cleaning technique

Hard crusties? what do you do to have this type of matter on the screen?

Be carful with what you use on the screen, a damp cloth is permissable. This does not mean spraying liquid directly on the screen and wiping it

Spray into the cloth or dampen cloth and wring out well. Do not let any excess water drip down the screen especially if it gets into the TV via the outer frame around the screen.otherwise poof it will never work again
