You remove the foot/stand unit, then the silver cover with the circular rubber ring can be carefully pried off.
If you do this, you'll void the warranty, so if you want to do this because your unit is dead, then you should return it for a warranty repair.
If you're doing this to put a larger capacity drive in the box, be aware that larger or faster hard drives might generate more heat which could adversely affect the new drive's ability to operate properly.
