My 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee keeps shutting off while driving. Sometimes I can put it in neutral and restart the engine while rolling. Most times, not. After 5-10 minuets and as many times cranking, it will start right up. I'm might drive for two minuets, ten minuets or a couple hours before it does it again. I've replaced the crank sensor, and the cam sensor in the distributor. I still getting fault codes 11 & 54. Any ideas???

54 - Sync Pick-Up Signal Not Detected (Camshaft Position Sensor/Ignition Pickup). recheck to see if power to sensor. make sure wire is in good shape, to cam sensor. 11 - No Crank Reference Signal At Power control module, crank shaft sensor. check to see if your getting signal from pcm. Good-day!

SOURCE: 2001 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 engine shuts off

it is possable/likely a bad ECTS (engine coolant tep. sensor), this can cause the injectors to allow to much fuel into cylinders and cause a low compression and or flooding situation, good luck, marty

SOURCE: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee when starting sometimes

I had a similar problem with a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis and it ended up being a bad fuel filter. But it could be a number of different things. My suggestion would be to check the vehicle on-board computer trouble codes and go from there. Good Luck.

SOURCE: I HAVE 95 JEEP GRAND

Had similar problem with 96 Jeep 4.0L engine. Tracked it down to the connector for the distributor pickup. Spliced in another connector and hasn't stalled since. Also, have you had any codes? Easy way to check on Chrysler products: turn key on, off, on, off, on (not starting) and watch the 'engine light' on the dash. It will flash off/on. Count the flashes with short pauses between and longer pauses between code. When you get a 5 count and 5 count, that is the end. This may also help

if this is a 5.2 or a 5.9 its a bad cam sensor. its located just under the cap and rotor and its a round plastic ring with a wire harrness. you should have a code come up

Can you use a tow rope on a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited if you put it in neutral?

Transfer case and transmission should be in neutral Since you are using a rope, someone needs to steer and brake If the engine runs this is much easier to do. Be careful using nylon straps and rope. they stretch and store energy. If you stress them they can snap and do serious damage. A chain is generally better as it will go limp.

Just bought my son a 93 jeep grand cherokee cant get it to run in 2wd we have 4wd all time & 4wd low on the shift.when we put in nutral & put the auto in drive the wheels dont spin dont have a...

Neutral is only used when you need to tow the jeep. Normal two wheel driving is done in 2h. To engage 4wheel drive keep rolling slowly and engage either 4h or 4L. Generally 4L is almost never used as it is for pulling weight like a vehicle stuck in a snowbank. If it does not return to 2h when you go back into two wheel operation, many times it will if you back up about ten or twenty feet. Don't engage 4 wheel drive while standing still. and never force the lever if you hear grinding.

Had problem starting, engine stopped while driving

Have you ever cleaned the throttle valve and idle speed control valve? this is on the stall issue. the starter sounds like the contacts may be burnt in the starter solenoid, this is common on this type of Japanese starter at about this mileage, you can rebuild the starter solenoid or just replace it.
