In my experience if you refill the toner cartridge with the toners available in the market,though they are labelled"for Brother 2140" you get vertical dark patches on the paper. Once in a while you get good quality print too. Replacement with correct toner cartridge seems to the solution.

try the toner cartridge. You can see where its coming from by printing 1 page. When the page starts coming out of the machine open the cover. Take out the toner cartridge and look at the page. The line should be there and you should be able to figure whats causing it. It's almost always the toner cartridge. If you have an old cartridge put it in and run a test with it. Vertical lines mean it is being caused by one of the rollers within the printer. This is usually either the toner cartridge or the fuser assembly. I would try changing out the toner cartridge first even if it is new as sometimes they are DOA and they are much cheaper than the fuser assemblies. If that doesn't work, probably the fuser assembly.

This can be caused by a damaged fuser or drum try to change the cartridge and if that does not resolved the issue then its the fuser

Hello sir; I believe you have running out toner , try put a new one see what's happen.

On top of the toner/drum cartridge there should be a blue slider, move back and forth 10 times.

If no fix, you need a new toner cartridge.

I had a hp 3050 yesterday with two vertical lines running down the page when making a copy. All I had to do was to pull open the top cover where you put the paper you want copied and cleaned the glass strip with a rag and alcohol and the lines were gone.
