After a few years of light use, the manual feed on my Brother HL-2170W has stopped working. I can hear the roller start moving, but the page I have in the front slot no longer gets grabbed and pulled into the printer (which it used to do). Instead, roller sops moving and the error light starts blinking. I removed and checked the actuator holder assembly; it was not caught on anything. I used Factory Inspection Mode to verify that the registration sensors and the paper eject sensor work fine. Printing from the paper tray works fine. Since it took years for this problem to turn up, and every once in a while the manual feed does work (but only maybe 3% of the time), I guess something might be worn or dirty. Can someone tell me what that might be, and how I can find and fix it?
SOURCE: Brother MFC 9600 won't pull paper from tray
There are rollers that cling on to the paper and move it through
the machine. When the rollers are worn down they do not grip the paper. For a
short fix you can get something rough like sandpaper, brillo pad, etc, and
gently scratch the rollers to give them some traction. This will temporarily
solve your problem until you can get the rollers replaced.
