Precor elliptical EXF5.21si

Hi i have a precor elliptical that was recently moved. not sure if the problem was there before but on the right foot stroke the crankarm is rubbing at the lower back rotation. i took the cover off, the bolt that holds the crank to machine was a bit loose. that helped reduce the rubbing at the bottom rotation but its still a bit there. ? anything else i should check ? Be careful! I had that same problem before. The bolt came loose and I heard rubbing then the entire right arm broke off dumping me to the floor. Make sure the bolt is not broken inside the housing.

SOURCE: Precor M9.21 Treadmill - Stops under load

This probably did not happened suddenly right? the problem is not the motor however you can easily check the blue capacitor for peace of mind. with the power disconnected, disconnect one side off the capacitor from the top. with a ohm meter put the 2 probes on the cap,you will ear a temporary beep sound from your meter, then reverse your probes on the capacitor and again a temporary sound that mean your capacitor is good and your motor will run OK.

Your problem is more then likely your run belt and bed assembly. When new, these are coated with a wax of some kind for slipping, has you use the machine wax wears off, and so is the belt. You can see a black rubber dust at the rear of the machine. And so resistance increase when pressure is applied on the running belt.

Just behind the on/off switch where the power cord goes in, there is a auto reset 15 amp breaker that trips when too must resistance against the motor increase the amperage over 15amps. At 7 min/m on your speed setting and if the belt is adjusted correctly with nobody on, the motor pull about 6amps, with someone like me 180lbs, the motor pulls an avg of 10amps with a new belt.

If you have a clamp amp meter you can test it yourself.

2 parts you will need to fix this; 50985-101 (bed assembly) and 36355-101 (run belt 17 X 110) This is real easy to install.

make sure these parts are for your machine model # as they did increased the width of their belt over the years

Since 1998 I had to replace these parts 2 times with an average of 3 people using the treadmill every day. This is a good machine and if everything else is good it's worth it. I paid $300 for these parts, i'm sure if you shoppe a little you can do better.

Have a good one

Reset the error code on a precor elliptical

Not familiar with an error 400 - and error 40 is an elevation error - it needs to be addressed(fixed) cannot really be reset otherwise. Check connections and fuses first. If it was recently put together, make sure the data cable was not pinched. If it is battery operated, an error 40 can occur when the battery is low.

How to fix the display

Start with verifying the battery voltage. Here is a video on how to do this. If your battery checks out, move on to the stride sensor gapping. I will post a link with a service bulletin that shows the stride sensor and it's location. Also, confirm the right crank arm still has the magnet on the backside.

Knocking/bumping sound while pedaling Precor 576i elliptical. It is coming primarily from the right side/pedal on the downward strike. What could be causing this?

It could be the input drive bearings going out. I would suggest removing the back side covers of the unit and inspecting the drive assembly when its in use. Watch for deviations in the the circular motion of the crank arms. If it moves side to side or drops in the rotation its time to have the input replaced.

Check the wired connections on the back of the HR grips. It could simply be unplugged. I have also seen them rusted from sweat. Start with this before moving on to other possibilities. I am attaching a link to a service manual for further troubleshooting tips.

Error 45 on Precor EFX 546 Elliptical

Precor Error 45, Lift Moving in Wrong Direction Probable Cause 1. Lift motor hysteresis.
2. Lower PCA is bad.
Corrective Action 1. The error would usually occur when the lift was already in motion (usually downward) when a lift command in the opposite direction (upward) was made. Some lift motors used in production exhibited a very long turnaround time and the lift motor would still be moving in the original commanded direction while the control system was trying to move the lift in the opposite commanded direction. If the error continues to re-occur, replace the lift motor.
2. It is a rare condition, however if the lift moves in the opposite direction commanded, replace the lower PCA.
