GE Built-In Room Air Heat Cool Air Conditioner Logo
Posted on Jun 23, 2009

I have a 8 year old GE Cirulaire 230volt/ 2600 BTU Portable(window air conditioner). it's only used occasionally in rela hot summer days. It's installed in a wall and only accessable outside about 25 (3 stories) ft straight up. I've been using the Ac on and off for the past 3 days and all of the sudden today it just shuts off all by itself. I checked to seeif i had blown a circuit Breaker but no! Nothing at all works...no power what so ever. Now I waited about 20 minutes and tried it again an lo and behold it turned right on and worked fine for about another 6 -7 minutes and then shut itself down again. I've now repeated this 3 -4 times. It will turn on after I let it set for a while, but once it does go on I have to reset the temperature guide. I can't believe it Froze up...but what else could be the problem? I checked the filter and it's nice and clean. However getting the unit out of the wall or accessing it from the outside is a major undertaking. Got any ideas on the problem and how I might be able to fix it? **** Wray

Suction pressure compressor is to low due to loss of refregerant.

How large a space are you hoping to cool? One room? One LARGE room? One SMALL room? One floor of a two-story house? A whole four-story house?

What's your climate like where you live? Very hot, dry, year-round? Cool most of the year but two weeks of hot during the summer? Just a little too warm in summer? Blazing hot all summer, including nighttime?

How's the insulation in the building you want to cool? Is it a plain steel building with no insulation? Is it a trailer? Is it a frame house with 4" walls and R13 fiberglass insulation? An old frame house with no insulation? An adobe building? A timberframe house with 8" of polyisocyanurate foam insulation?

All these are important to know when you select an air conditioner.

For most of the USA, assuming a frame house with 4" of fiberglass insulation, a 10,000BTU air conditioner will cool one large room or two small rooms pretty well, or a 5,000BTU AC will do one medium-sized room. Different places, and different house designs, and different types & amounts of insulation, will all have a profound effect on how much AC you need/want.

The power on my N120E - DeLonghi 12,000 BTU Portable Air turns itself off

The DeLonghi Pinguino Air Conditioner is such a smart choice for people in need of a little extra cooling in their homes! My better half purchased our a couple of years ago when he realized his office was getting much warmer in the Summer than the rest of the house. Being hot natured, he thought a portable air conditioner would be a smart choice. We've loved it! It's on wheels, so you can move it from room to room quite easily (even my 10-year-old has been known to move it.) It's outside vents attach to an adjucstable plate that fits right in any size window in seconds. Just select what temp you want it and... done! Super easy.Right now we're currently using it instead of our central unit while the temps aren't too very high.

Not blowing cold air anymore

Possibly dirty evaporator coil or condenser coil. Maybe dirty filters. Also could be low on refrigerant charge.

Unit is leaking underneath and onto my carpet....

Check your manufacturers warranty to establish warranty period and also Sam's customer service to see if they will support you. Hose and
connector need to be replaced to eliminate moisture. This can breed
mold if not properly addressed.

Danby ALSO does not cool 3 days old

Take it back where you bought it. A 12,000 BTU unit should be more than enough for a 192 square foot room, so there is some problem with the unit.

Wont no water to empty or drain

Either the unit is really dirty or it is low on refrigerant. A unit tha is low on refrigerant will start off cold and withing a few minutes, start warming up. If you aren't seeing any water its because of one or both causes listed.

Ductless minisplit in old mobile home

ductless mini split units are a very good choice!  they are obviously quieter, more efficient and easier to maintain than window units. the downside is the initial expense of buying the unit, but this is paid back in eletric savings and peace of mind. Good luck Peyton
