It could be your graphics card going, before purchasin a new 1, check that all your fans are working and that your cpu cooling fan or heatsink has not come loose. those type of problems cause the computer to shut down because of overheat. last but not least your hard drive can be going bad and its hitting bad sectors causing it to shut down or freeze.

My tv randomly freezes and and shuts off and them comes right back on and sometimes it squeals when doing that,i was told it was a power supply board, but replaced it and still the same, could the probelm be...

Loud screechy sounds, random turn-off and especially random restart are usually associated with the main board, not the power supply and not the T-CON and not the inverters (when separate).

Of course exceptions are always possible, but the rule is still that the above symptoms point to a bad main board.

Samsung has lots of main boards that develop a symptom of power cycling at startup, freezing image with loud screeching sound and eventually totally dead (although totally dead is also exhibited by main boards from every single manufacturer I know, so no much help there).

Anyway, this is 99.99% chance bad main board, especially considering it is known to develop a problem.

You can find repairs for the main problems of the Sanyo DP42849 and other series here:

Which brings me to the point that it is important to know which chassis version is your model. Some are quite different from others.

Good luck!

I've owned my COMPAQ PRESARIO SR5130NX for several years now, and right out of the box, it had serious issues with freezing. It froze randomly, generally after about 20 minutes to an hour of use, and...

The freezing sounds like it's one of the components are bad. You need to do some testing of components that you can test. You said you increased your RAM to 2GB, Did you buy all new memory or did you add additional to your existing memory? Here's what components I believe could be causing the problem. It's either the memory, cpu, or possibly the hard drive (that is easy to test) Just run a chkdsk from cmd prompt and if it comes clean, then it's not the disk. The last component which is not typically the problem (but can be) is the motherboard itself could have a short. It's not software, or any virus, since you've restored, upgraded, an the like, that usually will wipe any viruses out. I for some reason get the feeling it's the CPU. You said it started from out of the box, and it's been randomly doing this for a couple of years. (your are a very patient person) I would test the CPU HEREs a free cpu tester. If it freezes during the test, then I'd say it's the cpu. If not then you need to start testing each componeant to make sure it's first a compatible part, and 2nd if it's in perfect working order.

Let me know how it goes.

My hp pavilion m7170n keeps shutting off randomly, is this a power supply problem?

You are going to have to test several things when trying to diagnose the problem.

1) It could be *********** Board. Most computer shops will have a test cpu or each particular motherboard cpu style, this allows them to test your CPU and Mother Board.

2) Yes, It could be your power supply. Power supplies do go out randomly, normally a common problem is people forget to upgrade the power supply when they upgrade, say, a video card. Depending on the size of the power consumption of the new hardware the person would need to upgrade the power supply, other wise they end up having the same problem.

3) Have you upgraded your RAM lately? If so then double check to be sure *********** Board can handle it, otherwise it will reset like it is.

Well I hope this helps.

Toshiba Tecra M3 Laptop keeps freezing and shutting down, Can't even do Fresh Install on New Hard Disk Without Freezing, Have Replaced CPU Heatsink Compound.

What made you suspect the compund? You're probably right though. The fan has died or is too slow. The CPU and the video chip are what the fan is protecting. It might require a new CPU chip and fan. If it's the video chip, then a new mother board is in your future.

Good Luck

My Averatec 3200 turns of randomly...

Check the CPU and Fan/Heatsink assembly. I have a pretty good feeling that the CPU is heating up too much and is not being cooled properly. There may be lint or dust clogged in the fan. You can get access to this pretty easy by removing a few screws on the bottom panel that houses the CPU/fan.

My DC5000 SFF turns on okay then switches off randomly Help!!

Which fan are you referring to? As far as I know the fan in the power supply runs at the same speed at all times. So if that is the fan you are hearing it may indicate that the power supply is failing. The power supply may be over heating and shutting down. I would try a different power supply if you can get your hands on one.

CPU shutting down.

Hi MonaMona,
Replacing a CPU fan is easy, but be carefull, the CPU will have old thermal grease on it, so unlatch the CPU at the same time you take the fan off. Because the CPU will come up with the fan, so unlatch the CPU pins, to release the CPU pins, when taking the fan off. And when putting the new fan on the CPU, & the fan nust be smaller then 80mm, the sell just CPU fans. Make sure you put on thermal grease on the CPU, so it won't over heat & will protect your CPU, also don't cake on the grease. Put on a small amout & spread it on the CPU thin. Let me know if that does it for you.

Good Luck with it.
