Tom tom won't turn off

Turned tom tom on and lit up with picture and ticon saying tom tom. then it won't load up. tried turning it off but display still shows picture with icon.

tried charging and docking it but nothing seems to work.

the light will come on to say its charging but the screen stays same?


its a tom tom Go 710.

If it does not proceed when the icon is selected, presume data corruption or in fact no data.
TomTom is renouned for this type of problem.
try rteinstalling the map data from the source.

try a reset first ( small pinhole on rear) put open paperclip end in and gently push the button inside) if this still fails then data installation is the go

Okay.... probably too late for you but..... the on / off button on the 710 needs to pressed and held-in for a couple of seconds or so to enable it to shut down also you must ensure that you push the button fully down, otherwise it won't shut off.

No, then tom tom cannot recharge when the car is not on. You need to turn on the car before your tom tom can charge. The battery gets to charge the tom tom when in use. Once the car is turned off the gps will not charge. You can try out a practical by turning off your car and plugging the gps to see if it will work. Or the cigarette lighter, does it work when the car is turned off. Since the cigarette lighter does not turn on when the car is off, then it means it gps cannot charge once the car is turned off.

If you have a tom tom from the GO models
they hace a reset button you can press with a pin were the mount fits.
When you plug in the charger the green light should come on to say it is chargeing.

Cannot connect phone
1-Your tom tom does not have the device driver needed to connect to your phone?
2- Turn off the bluetooth device the tom tom is a bluetooth device and the two of them are probably arguing the tom tom and your actual bluetooth.
3- You have to put the tom tom in discover mode and let the PHONE find the tom tom then the tom tom should find the phone, once this happens you enter the code and tell the phone that this is a trusted device. The same thing that was done with your actual bluetooth device. Hope this helps

i do not know if you have changed the voice on the preferences, if not on main menu 1 page tap change preferences,go to page 4 tap change voice, the computer voices will be 1st ,then tap the one you want then select ,

Trying to load the home, it says to just plug into the tomtom,
Be sure that you have the Tom Tom turned on. Also, if you have it plugged into a front USB port on your computer, try connecting it to one on the back. I hope this helps.

Tom Tom 910
Either faulty / corrupted files on the hard drive or a faulty hard drive ( not uncommon ) is causing this problem. Effectivley causing the TomTom to lock up as it cannot procede . In order for a tomtom to turn off normally , it needs to have fully loaded up normally. Your tomtom isn't loading up properly , hence the problem. If you have a backup of the tomtom hard drive ? ( I hope you backed up the files to your PC ) then you can try formatting the tomtom hard drive and copying the files back to it from your PC .
