Built In Webcam

I have a built in web cam and whenever i get on AIM or other online messaging networks to video chat, it says my camera is in use with another program and will not work. The problem is there is no other program running. Any suggestions? I have a built-in webcam, which does not work. When I try to use it it says "Locked by another application". Restarting does not work as well. What should I do?

We couldn't start your camera device. Please check that your camera is not currently in use by another program, and then try again.

Your camera is automatically enabled at windows startup and get reserved by windows driver itself. That is the reason you can't use your webcam. Try to disable this program from running the startup with windows. You may do this from: Start > All programs > Startup right click the particular program that captures camera, and disable it (delete this). This should solve your problem. Otherwise please let us know.

Ok, first let's approach this from a rational way of thinking, I have to count on your answers to steer us in the right direction, so first what other program that you installed during the time that the cam ceased to function?, if you can come up with that answer we are home free. If not there is only one thing to do. How many IM's are yoou running at once, just because they aren't on the screen doesn't mean that they aren't running. From the way you wrote this you have more than one, since we are not in chat, I must assume you have at least 2 that use the cam right. You have to go into each one where they say either tools, or properties, and change the setting so that the program does not run at all nor control the camera automaticlly. If you arent sure what you are doing, get a friend wh's a geek, to show you. The only other alternative is to start removing 1 IM and see if it works, if you have more than 2, you are always going to have one of them try to hog the camera, unless yu set it not to do that. As long as you know your log on , I would take one out and see if that does the trick. Guaranteed that's what's happening, an app is not allowing the other apps to use it.

I have a sony vaio with built in web cam and windows 7 but i cant use the web cam . why is that?

Are you using the Sony Webcam companion? If not ou can download the application from Sony Vaio website. ( Sony Web Cam Companion ). If you are trying to use skype or any other video messaging software: Try to check if there are other video chat application running in the background of your computer. Open the system configuration utility (Windows key + R > msconfig ) then go to the Startup Tab. Uncheck all application that is related to video chat and leave the preferred video chat software active (checked). Restart the computer and viola! You can now use your webcam for video chat.

How do I activate my built in web cam? I can see myself on the screen, but how do I contact other correspondents to live chat with live video? I have anAcer Aspire One Notebook.

depending on your IM program you can invite others to view your webcam... if you get a message like 'unavailable' or something like that go to the options of that program at webcam and look at 'Camera Source' ..there is a short list and you need to choose your built in camera..it`s name should be on that list..then hit Apply..and that should be it!

The Audio in my webcam central won't seem to work can anyone help me fix this problem when i first got my dell it seemed to work but now it doesn't and i want to record a video but the audio won't seem to...

I have a Dell 1545 with Dell web cam central & I've had this issue. The problem is that Dell web cam central installs it's own microphone settings onto your laptop called something like Dell web cam Live!. This isn't the built in microphone in my laptop & maybe not yours either. You have to change the settings for your computer system & Dell web cam central. Go to start> control panel> sound> recording .. on mine there is an option for Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" ... that is the built in mic. You want that for your default & apply it. Then open Dell web cam central & go to the "Record Video's" option. In the middle of this is an orange button with a video camera icon. Next to this on the same button is a little arrow pointing down .. click that. Under microphone .. choose Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" just like the sound option in control panel. I've done this & it's completely fixed. I can record videos with sound & use my built in mic in voice/video chat.
