Ricoh sp3510 cartridge required error

Question edited for clarity.

You can try this first. Unplug the machine from the wall socket. clean the contacts on the toner cartridge, and the contacts on the machine with Isopropyl Alcohol.

Was it a Genuine Ricoh cartridge or a hinky mall refill. You might need to buy a Reset Chip.

SC491 on a Ricoh SP 210SU is a code for bias leak.

The machine detects that a bias leak has occured from the drum charge, development charge or transfer charge.
PWM signals are sampled at 20 msec. intervals. This SC is issued if 10 PWM samplings within 200 msec. are abnormal.

• HVPS (high voltage power supply) harness loose, broken, defective
• HVPS board defective
• AIO terminal defective (the terminal for the toner cartridge)
• Cycle the machine off/on
• Check all the harness connections of the HVPS
• Check spring-loaded AIO terminal installation behind the HVPS.
• Replace HVPS.

Usually this error is related to the cartridge. Some manufacturers of compatible cartridges will replace the cartridge with a new one.
At least they should give a discount based on how many pages that was printed before it failed.

I have not seen this problem with a new genuine Ricoh cartridge.
It is important that the cartridge is not refilled more then 3 times. There is no counter on this, and companies that refill cartridges they collect (with unknown number of cartridges) may have problems quite often.

This is the correct solution to resolving SC542 error on a Ricoh SP3410 SF and SP3510SF:
Press Clear/Stop button once and then press 1 0 7 and then the Start button to enter the "Engine Maintenance" in Maintenance Mode. Select "Fuser SC Reset" and execute..press ok. Turn main power on and off. Issue will be resolved.

it is the problem your cartridge sensor chip.You change cartridge unite & buy new cartridge than solve it

There's a list of Ricoh error codes right here: http://www.tecnodigitale.com/riparazioni/pdf/Codici_errore_Ricoh.pdf but it doesn't indicate an sc291 for the 3800 or for any other model for that matter.

There are usually contacts on the cartridge that interface with a reader in the printer to detect the chip in the cartridge. Examine a cartridge and look for any electrical contacts, make sure they don't look damaged or dirty clean them with 98% isopropyl alcohol. With the printer powered off and upplugged, try to find the corresponding contacts inside the printer for each of the contacts on the cartridge, clean those too.

If that doesn't change, try a different cyan cartridge, if that still doesn't work you will probably have to get the machine serviced.
