To change the settings of keypad auto lock of your Nokia E71 and to make it automatic. Follow the given steps:
Go to Menu >> Tools >> Settings >> General Settings >> Security Settings >> Device and SIM card security >> Phone and SIM card >> Keypad auto lock period
Here you can set your keypad to lock automatically after a defined period.

Go to settings in your mobile there you will get a opyion related to your keypad lock...so from there you can lock your keypad

To unlock the keypad, select Unlock, and press * within
1.5 seconds. If Security keyguard is set to on, enter
the security code if requested.
To answer a call when the keypad is locked, press the
call key. When you end or reject the call, the keypad
automatically locks

My local Nokia Care Center provided the easy answer (which does not appear in the
owner's manual):

In the Menu, go to Settings, then select Phone settings, and activate "Keyguard Settings," and "Automatic." That done, you must select the time interval until the keypad self-locks. To unlock,
touch the "select" key (upper left key) and * (lower left). That combination also will relock the keypad.

there are 3 ways to lock the keypad.

first there is a icon for settings. click on it and look for right side. with this you can stroll down and mark all of the features you would like for shortcuts. look for one with lock keypad. all you have to do is touch this and the keys would lock.

second, is look for keyguard and set it to automatic. this would automatically lock your keypad within a few seconds of not using it.

finally, you can touch the upper left key and the symbol *. this can only be done manually and if you perform the 2 step, this one is not needed
