Laptop 2nd HDD(Slave) running max 20mb/s

Why not install a new 2.5" hdd in your laptop caddy.I replaced my 40gb with a 160gb, works fine and the data tranfer speed is better than a slave configuration. The average speed of around 40mb/sec Is because of the smaller platter, the amount of cache, the firmware installed and so on.

Emachines model MS2257 HDD password

Can you get into it at all. If you can't, try to reset to the factory presets. You can do this with:
  • A restore CD
  • A XP/Vista disk and choose to re-format and re-install it again (probably your best bet)
  • *If you can get in as a guest* Re-install from hidden Restore drive. (Usually by pressing ALT - F10) You

HDD upgrade to extensa 6601 Wlmi.

The BIOS determine the maximum size hard drive that can be installed in the laptop. Put a smaller hard drive in the laptop say 120Gb hard drive, you will lose approx 10% in the formatting process.
Use the 180GB in another laptop or put it into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as a portable external hard drive.

Hdd password frozen on laptop These both worked. Thanks much to Eddie333 and howarthjd2. What I ended up doing was this: Note- I was not replacing the HDD, merely trying to reinstall WindowsXP, which...

if you download the sata drivers from the toshiba website for your specific laptop and then extract them and get nlite ( www.nliteos.com and slipstream the drivers into the xp disc you can then re install xp and it should allow you to boot.

As for the hard drive frozen password that should be in the bios on the hard drive that you set it for so it should remember it

if not you may have to contact toshiba and they should have a back door password that they can produce once you give them the asset tag ( serial number of the laptop ) and once you enter that it should resolve the hard drive frozen issue.

Had a hard drive frozen at a school once and had to call dell ( as it was a dell laptop obviously ) and gave them the serial number and they created a back door password for me - jobs a good one :D

Network Boot Windows XP?

Put the HDD in any other computer , creat a folder called XPbackup and copy the XP cd to the folder, Start the XP install from the other computer  , when the install stops for CD key , turn of the computer and remove the HDD and put the HDD on the laptop and turn it on , Mostly the installation should start from where it stoped. If the Xp install askes for the source files , browse to the folder created and point to the files. Most of the time XP will install a generic HAL so no need to worry.
