A verification code will be send by Google, when you have set a two time verification to your account. It will be normally send to your mobile phone. It will contain digits only. When you try to ace's your account, by entering your email address and password, the window will ask you the verification code. Just open the message that you've got from Google, and enter the digits you see there, as it is; and press 'Enter'.
It is a security measure against unauthorized log in to your account.
To turn off 2-step verification:
> Visit the Using 2-step verification page under your Google Account settings. Sign in with your username, password, and verification code if prompted.
> Click the "Turn off 2-step verification" link.
> A pop-up window will appear to confirm that you want to turn off 2-step verification. Click "OK".

Apple ID keep asking for verification number; when I enter code they sent me it' keep saying try again I've tried asking for new code to be sent, but it now says I've tried to many times

I suspect that you might be entering the wrong value thinking that it is the verification number.

I have seen people key in the number the verification number came from thinking it was the verification number.

You'll find the verification number inside the message.

I'm not saying this is what you did, but I have observed this several times.

As far as being locked out is concerned... you'll either have to wait for some period of time before it lets you try again, or you'll have to contact Apple support.

How many numbers in a verification code?

Usually the code is 6 digits, but it could vary.

When Google sends a verification code as text it arrives on your phone FROM a 'phone number'.

You have to open the text and get the verification code from the text message.

I've seen several people key in the 'phone number' from Google instead of the code inside the message.

1. Try and sign in to your google account from another computer.
