Looking to buy a cord to transfer images from camera to my macbook (via usb?) what kind of cord would i need to buy?
They are all over EBay, just search your camera model number. Here is an example:

Page 70 of your manual explains how you can transfer pictures to your MAC.
And yes USB.
Testimonial: "Bought the camera second hand, and didn't come with this usb cord. If i were to buy it online what would the type of cord be called? (tried researching myself but was confused about the certain types) would a 5 pin mini USB B cable work?"
SOURCE: I can't seem to send images from my camera via cable or infrared
Simply get a cable that fits. The camera cable should be a standard USB A for the Computer- assuming the computer has USB or is it Sony and fitted with Fire-wire in which you will need an adaptor Fire-wire to USB
