I had linux when i bought my hp compaq presario laptop. Then I installed windows 7 on it.I had my windows for3 years and didn,t had a problem till now.I updated windows and then when it restarted the grub...

Sounds like you may have installed windows alongside of linux after linux had been installed. This is not usually advised. If this is the case your most likely seeing windows boot loader instead of grub. If you did in fact fully replace with windows then the update may have two installations of windows on it. Either way I would recommend backing up data on hard drive (use a live cd to view data) and format hard drive and re-install Windows and if you had/want linux as well, install that after windows. If you can give me a little more info I can help you more.

I purchased SOny NWZ-S544 Walkman. when i connect it to my laptop (Windows XP OP) it will not show up unlike other device, so i cant access it through my laptop pls help

You don't need any driver software, if your pc has windows xp sp2 or later and Windows Media Player 11.
If you have problem with your device follow this steps:
1. Connect the player to the computer.
2. From the computer, select start - Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - System. "System Properties" is displayed.
3. Select Hardware tab, and open Device manager.
4. Open Universal Serial Bus controllers, and select USB Mass Storage Device or WALKMAN NWZ-XXXXX.
5. Select Action - Update Driver ... from the menu bar. "Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard" is displayed.
6. A dialog on Windows Update connection will be displayed. Select No, not this time., followed by Next.
7. Select Install from a list or specific location [Advanced], followed by Next for the hardware install method.
8. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install., followed by Next for the search and install option.
9. Check Show compatible hardware, and then select MTP Device* in the model list, followed by Next. The device driver is installed.
10. "Completing the Hardware Update Wizard" message is displayed, and confirm "MTP Device" message. Click Finish.

I hope I could help you.
Thanks.

I cant intall update

if this is a failed microsoft update, write down the number or title, check add remove programs with the show updates box checked,if you see it installed then uninstall it an then check for new updates to see if it works, otherwise,go to microsoft update, view update history ,look for failed update ,click on it and follow the help links, usually end up at another update that needs to be installed first, just disableing microsoft updates, and switching back to windows update fixes update problems, and vice-versa
