Why would my central air unit blow warm air and not cool the house?

The blower inside is functioning along with fan and compressor in outside unit. I have changed filter, capacitor, contactor and cleaned coils on outside unit and a coil inside. Coils were not that dirty and capacitor and contactor checked out fine before I replaced them. Am I looking at a leak as it was blowing cold air, and then next day warm? Or would it be something else? Do I have a TXV on this unit as I can't recall if there was or not?I so, could that be the culprit? Unit is from 1995 and has been great.

Clicking sound is the contactor engaging to start the outside unit. Check for a burnt off wire at the contactor. For some reason you are not getting power to the outside unit. If you find a burnt off wire shut off all power to it then remake the connection at the point of the circuit break.

SOURCE: Blowing hot air, compressor not kicking on, just fan ? ?

are you speaking of the outside fan or inside? compressor should be a little warm but not boiling hot. the unit could be low on freon. if low it will run a while but the compressor will overheat and shut off leaving the fan running by itself ouside. if nothing outside is running check power. if you have power check the contacted outside to make sure it's pulled in. contacters are bad about going out on goodman untis. Also ants can get under contacts.

SOURCE: House HVAC Not Blowing

If the outside unit is running and the inside unit is not, probably a problem with the fan motor itself or its capacitor. If you have to have someone repair or replace the fan $200-$250 with parts, a capacitor for a service call and part $100 or so. Check it yourself first to see if there is anything obvious broken wire, hot connection, etc if you feel safe doing that. Turn the power off first. There is also a chance the thermostat could be the problem. Have you tried running the fan on the thermostat "fan on" setting?

If you have a heat pump probably there's a wrong connectionin the thermostat, but if is not a heat pump ,the compresor is not working or the unit leaked all the refrigerant.

Verify the compressor is running. If it is then you need to get the refrigerant charge checked. If it isn't, check for an overload that may need to be reset and use an ohmmeter to check the compressor motor winding. The fan and compressor run off of the same contactor so I would think it has power to it. Does the fan and the compressor use the same capacitor? If they do and you haven't replaced it yet then try that first.

Goodman central air conditioner not blowing normally

It sounds like the compressor is not coming on in the outside unit. If it worked fine and was cooling before, then your compressor probably over-heated and tripped the internal overload switch which causes it to stay off while everything else is working. The most common cause of your compressor over heating is an incorrect refrigerant charge, though it could be a few other things like a restriction in the copper line set. You will be able to hear the fan motor and the compressor kick on if you listen close while the system first turns on. If the compressor is over-heated, then after it cools to a save temperature, it will come on again, but only till it over-heats again. I would have the charge checked on the system, but remember that if the compressor is over-heated when the technician gets there, there is nothing he can do until it cools down and time is money! It's best to not run it until the problem gets figured out. Hope this helps and points you in the right direction. Good luck!

I was leaning towards a bad contactor. Either sticking sometimes or not making good contact. I would inspect the contactor for pits or burn marks near the contacts. DO SO WITH POWER OFF of course...but, what's the reset button you are referring to?? I'm assuming this is a heat pump, please send model number!!

Ac fan on, blowing air, but not cold

Check outside unit if unit and compressor are running feel the large line to see if it is cold. If compressor is running and line is not cold possible charge problems. You may have a capacitor problem outside. they go out quite often. You can change this yourself, Open up outside unit and the cap is the silver bullet with terminals out the top. Bad cap can cause compressor to not operate and also the fan. You need to clean the coil inside or at leat check the coil to see if it is clean. You can clean theis with a toilet brush do not go against the coil bit brush with the fins. You may need to call a service tech but try these options first. russ

How to Clean 1984 TRANE Cooling VENTS inside house No Manuals

The Outdoor unit will be easy 1st diconeect power at panel, or disconnect box near unit. Remove top of unit, be careful not to damage fan blades. Spray coils (fins) with a light degreaser let is soak for 5 mins. wash out coils from inside the unit out. Spray straight on so you push the dirt out the other side.

Re assemble and start up.

Indoor coil will be accessed by removing front cover and you may have another cover to expose the inside of the coil fins. That is where you need to clean. Spray degreaser on coils and rinse off. If its gunked up then use a wire brush 1st. Carefull not to bend the fins over.

Check the drain pan at bottom of the coil to be sure it's not full of stuff. Blow out if needed.

You should be clean and ready for the season

CENTRAL AIR UNIT IS NOT BLOWING INSIDE BUT THE COMPRESSOR OUTSIDE IS RUNNING. WHEN I GO DOWN TO THE BASEMENT TO CHECK THE FILTER-THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT AND THE FILTER IS WATER LOGGED. ORIGINALLY IT WAS...

There may be a leak. You might try shutting it down and taking a look inside. On the other end, there may be something wrong with your components inside. The compressor outside is to provide coolant. Inside, the fans actually cool the air. Make sure all doors are on the blower downstairs, and if all else fails, call a technician. Good luck!

Bryant central air unit fan doesn't stop.

This is a condenser fan and as long as the A/c unit is in cool mode, this fan will run. The only time it should shut off is when temperature setting is satified and the unit shuts off.
