You may be able to find a rocker for the on/off switch of your Electrolux Silverado 1505 vacuum at an Electrolux dealer or an authorized repair center. You may also be able to purchase a replacement rocker online from an retailer that specializes in vacuum parts and accessories. Here are a few suggestions for finding a replacement rocker:
Search online for the make and model of your vacuum, along with the words "replacement rocker" or "on/off switch rocker." You may be able to find a compatible rocker from an online retailer that specializes in vacuum parts and accessories.
Check the manufacturer's website. You may be able to purchase a replacement rocker directly from Electrolux or find a list of authorized dealers or repair centers where you can purchase one.
Contact the manufacturer directly. You may be able to request a replacement rocker from Electrolux's customer service department or find a list of authorized dealers or repair centers where you can purchase one.
It sounds like the Rocker Assembly has cracked inside your switch. When they break it's usually in the "Off" position.
So this is how you take it apart:
Remove Hose Remove Bag
Now stand the vacuum up and peel back the bumper guards on the left and right side of the vacuum. Peel them back roughly 6 inches and pull straight up on the bumpers. This should release the side of the machine.
When doing the other side be careful in doing so because once you release that last bumper, your vacuum will be ready to disassemble.
When you remove the bumpers place your vacuum wheels up. Pull the cord out roughly 3 ft, just for slack. Now you should be able to release the bottom of your vacuum.
When you lift off the bottom of your vacuum (wheel side) the front cover and the bag compartment will come with it. Just be careful. There will be about 4 wires. Just unclip the wires from the bag compartment. That way you can place the front of the vacuum at the back of the machine to give you more room to work with.
When removing the bag compartment, there will be a clear hose that plugs into the lower corner of the compartment. That will just slide off, but be sure when you reassemble that you connect that clear hose back on your vacuum will show a full bag indicator.
Now once you have the front cover and bag compartment out you should see the underside of your switch. There will be 2 to 4 screws. Remove them and the cover will release your switch from the underside.
When your switch comes out you will have to push the retaining clip on the top of the switch to remove the cover. Once you do that you will see 2 slider switches with a broken rocker in between them. There will be a small spring attached to this rocker so pay attention on how it goes back on the rocker.
Go to your local Aerus Electrolux with your rocker and tell them you want a replacement rocker. It should be under $10.00 and once you do that, just reverse these steps.
Your switch died, it happens a lot with this brand of shopvac. Just extract the little switch behind the big rocker switch and replace it with one from radio shack, or replace it with a toggle switch. Cheap and easy to do.
You may need a ROCKER device for the switch, however before you go there determine if you can hear an audible click when depressing the switch, or if the switch just springs up and down with no click. A click means a rocker is needed. No click, just springing up and down with an occasional click means the spring attached to the underside of the switch button is fatigued, you need the button and switch mechanism, same location but above the rocker. Also post the issue. If the lights are on and the vac won't start or stop, the switch is the problem area. If it starts and shuts off with the bag full light on it is more likely the control valve. If no lights come on your problem is in the cord or rewind and could be a failed rewind spool. The best and genuine switch parts are best found only at an AERUS Elctrolux store Look for my post from earlier today and you will have full instructions on opening and checking the control valve and the entire unit. Post back with results
WOW !!! Finally You are dead on, absolutely 100%.... good work!!!.
Get only a genuine new switch button with spring from an AERUS Electrolux dealer and reinstall. Then carefully reassemble the entire body and wiring harness. Congratulations getting there.... you rate as an honorary technical genius in my book,...Your wife should be bragging about you to her friends. I am genuinely impressed and I`ve been fixing these since 1990. I bow in your presence. PS while youre in there, check the rocker for evidence of fatigue, it is the more common issue
I got a replacement switch at a local electronic supply store: Philmore Miniature Rocker Switch part number 30-043. Shop vac changed the switch recently to two push buttons from the old rocker style. This update works a lot better.
The 2100 is an older model which is prone to rocker switch failure. What you see outside is only a switch button. Underneath is a plastic rocker which sits in a grove and pivots back and forth to activate the on off switch. If you push the switch down and there is no audible "click" you Likely need the rocker itself, especially if you tip the vac upside down and shake it and hear a piece rattling inside or find a broken narrow plastic finger about 1/2" inch long when opened. However if it clicks and works every 3-5 times, the rocker is fine and you will need the spring mechanism and switch button which you can see form outside. To remove either the process is the same. Separate the body by opening the bag cage and pulling the two bumpers forward with a set of pliers. They are locking keys. Once removed, the rear housing will drop off allowing the vac to hinge open back to front. Do this with the vac laying upside down and observe the hinge section of the front bag door .DO NOT REMOVE THE MOTOR. You will need to clip all these componnets back together to reassemble and slide the bag chamber back to seat against the motor with the motor housing engage in the ribbing of the vac side walls. With the vac open you will only need to remove the spring loaded bag lockout switch and the bag housing it sits on, not the motor or rewind.. Once removed there will be 6 chrome philips screws visible. These hold the top trim on the front of the vac and the front ones hold the on off switch into its housing. At the very front will be two screws going through a black or whitish switch housing. That housing will lift out with wires attached to reveal the switch rocker, etc,. This portion will lift back and out at about 45 degrees of the inner housing, as a unit. The switch button sits atop the rocker via two end tabs and will pop off the housing to reveal if the rocker itself has a broken "finger" or if the button has a weak spring. The suspect spring is not the coil rocker spring but the thin U shaped spring on the underside of the switch button. Remove the rocker spring with a pair of needle nose pliers.and examine the rocker comparing to your new one.Use more vaseline on the new rocker and if you have it reinsert the clear flex plastic into the coil spring. If not disregard. Re-installation is the reverse order, tuck switch back in at 45 degrees from back to front. Pay special attention the the rubber seal at the back of the bag cage. If anything is misaligned in this body you will fight to reassemble. Don't fight it , back up and look at your work. When and ONLY when it is perfect it will realign and click together like a lego set and the keys will slide in perfectly You can and should test the vac before reassembling the whole body, simpley slide your hand under neath and activate the switch, with a bag inside the vac. See now, wasn't that EASY??????? Please post back to advise how you make out. Its a 7 minute process worth $25 for a good tech. A bad tech will spend half a day trying to figure this one out but just go slow and follow the instructions and you will do fine.
If this is the switch on the hose the switch can pop out the front for inspection. If it is the switch on the vac the rear housing of the vac needs to be removed to access the actual rocker switch underneath the switch pad. Both are inexpensive. If the vac is in good shape check the switch and replace if necessary.
