I have a GE Profile refrigerator. The solenoid wore out, so I replaced it (easy and straight forward job). However, the new solenoid seems to work in reverse. When I turn on the power supply, the solenoid immediately engages, and opens the dispenser flap. This should only happen when I press the actuator pad. Does anyone have any thoughts about what could be wrong?

Did the Part numbers match exactly (between the old and new parts)? Is there anyway you could have crossed and wires? It's possible that the controller board is malfunctioning, I don't have schematics to give you any additional info.

Testimonial: "Thanks for you suggestion...The part numbers do match exactly, and I was very careful not to cross the wires. I was wondering if it could be the controller board, but just wanted to get a few suggestions before I ordered one. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it."

SOURCE: GE Profile Refrigerator Ice/Water dispenser not working

Hi Urban Woman,

Unfortunately, your dispenser interface board has gone to appliance parts heaven and needs to be replaced. Fortunately it's relatively cheap. If I recall correctly, all you have to do to access the dispenser board is use a small flat screwdriver. There are 2 locking "tabs"/slots on either side and underneath the board (you will barely be able to see it, they're just that small). 6fb5654.jpg

Of course you already know that you need to unplug the fridge before doing any repairs so I can skip that part.

Insert your screwdriver into those slots and pry the bottom of the board out. Then grasp it with your hands and remove it completely. There are three wire bundles on it, remove them and re-install them on the new board. Then simply snap the new board into place.

This should take maybe 15 minutes to do... super easy job.

SG

p.s. Here's a link to the service manual, but the removal of the dispenser board is not in it (everything else is, though, so it may come in handy later)

p.s.s. Since you're going to be unplugging the fridge for the repair, you ought to go to Home Depot and pick up one of these to plug it back into. Transient voltage spikes are most likely the cause of all your woes... including the main board that was replaced.

SOURCE: GE refrigerator model GSS22 WGMD ice maker motor

If you cant manually turn your auger motor, it may be bad. Does it dispense solid ice or no ice at all? Another thing may be your control panel. That could be bad too, it's the one sending juice to both your solenoid and auger motor.

SOURCE: Ice maker in our GE profile refrigerator is not working

Ice maker Diagnostic Test:

- Remove the ice bucket
-Turn the ice maker off, wait 15 seconds than turn it back on
-Press the ice paddle three times, this will begin diagnostic test.
-PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH ICE MAKER DURING DIAGNOSTICS

-In 3 minutes you should see the rack inside turn 360 degrees
-AND the ice maker bowl should fill with water

-IF either DID NOT work, call 1-800-GE-CARES for ice maker replacement. A service call is approx $80. The $80 will be deducted from the part/labor if you choose to purchase/install parts from the service technician. If not, you will pay for the service call. Good luck.

Most likely the defrost heater is burned out below the evaporator coil. It will be easy to spot because on the profile the defrost heater has a glass tube covering the element inside. You will need to defrost first before you will be able to see anything. If you replace the defrost heater also replace the defrost thermostat, Thanks, Sea breeze

Solenoid or the dispenser switch.

The water supply line connects to a water valve on the Ref. this water valve has two solenoids, one for the ice maker and one for the water in the door. Check this solenoid with an OHM meter.

The dispenser switch should send 110 volts to the solenoid. Check at the solenoid while pushing the water switch in the door.

Icemaker not working, freezer not getting cold enough....

Try using an hairdryer or defrosting the unit completely , this often get rid of blockage caused by frozen lines fixing the problem.

The water lines can also be unblocked from dirt using a thin flexible shaft. This after defrosting.

If all that does not fix the problem, then you may need to replace the water valve, the icemaker solenoid, or the whole icemaker assembly.
