Eortiz:
From your provided information, you " backed up" these files.
If a backup program was used, then you may need to install same program on your new system.
Backup programs generally save as a special compression / writing format recognition..
"Protected Files " could = specific program access required
OR creator Log In ID and Password required
OR the file itself may be locked by the creator ( within the program itself ) EX: Word file access limited / locked by file creator
If files were " copied " to external device, then Windows 7 - when external drive is attached should offer to ( attempt to remove password protection ) open files. While the list would be visible, sub-folders and most files would be inaccessible for normal / future use.
( they would display name, date and "0" size )
If you used Windows Vista back up,
In Windows 7 machine, Create identical Login ID with Same Password that was used during original back up creation
Restart machine ( cold reboot )
Login to Win7 system using this newly created Login & Password
open Windows backup and Restore. Windows 7 should restore to the device location you direct.
Hope this helped.
Eortiz, did you try to read the files with a windows PC? Because when you connect the external drive to a PC you should be able to view the files and even be able to change the attributes like read only and hidden.
Testimonial: "yes thank you."
