This might somewhat help. Today I went back .. I went HDMI out of the Cable box and DVD player into 2 of the TVs HDMI ins. The digital audio out from each, straight to the receiver and things are working ok. All speakers are working OK. Sound isnt as loud or crisp but unfortunately I found no other solution.
Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.

I'm now having the same problem. This has worked for about 6 months, and just today the video went out while I was watching it. HDMI direct to TV works fine
Hi - i just bought the SP908 HtiB from 6th Ave. I am unable to figure out how to get HDMi signal from the receiver to go to the TV. HDMI connections work fine directly to the TV but not via the receiver.

I connected a ONKYO Tx-SR605 Receiver to a Mitsubishi 73” DLP TV. My connections were as follows.
My DirecTV HD box and a Sony Blu-Ray were connected to the ONKYO receiver’s HDMI 1 & 2 inputs. The ONKYO receiver HDMI output was then connected to the Mitsubishi TV HDMI input #1. I did have the ONKYO receiver HDMI output to the TV turned on.
I also have an Xbox connected by way of the Mitsubishi TV HDMI #2 input, and a Optical Digital cable connected for the Xbox to the ONKYO receiver Optical input #1. This connection was necessary because the ONKYO receiver only has two HDMI inputs.
This connection worked for about 40 days. Any time we wanted to watch TV, we just needed to be on the TV’s input #1, then switch to the TV’s input #2 when we wanted to play the Xbox. And like I said, this worked great for 40 days.
One day when we had the TV’s set to input #2 because we were playing the Xbox. Then we wanted to watch a movie so we tries to switch back to the TV’s input #1 to get the signal from the ONKYO receiver the was connected to the TV’s HDMI input #1.
What had happened id the TV for some reason lost the setup for the ONKYO receiver. It was like it was never their. I tried to do any thing the book had on setting up the connection but The only way I got it to work was to hit the reset button in the front of the TV. After I got it to work again and then I would turn the TV and then back on, or if I were to change the TV’s HDMI input #2 to play the Xbox, and then tried to switch back to the TV’s HDMI #1 it would be lost again.
Also when I was trouble shooting this issue, I was able to get the TV working with the ONKYO receiver by unplugging the HDMI cable, and then plugging it back into a different HDMI input on the TV. But I would still have the same trouble and the connection would be lost.
I got the TV to work, but what I had to do is do a factory reset on the TV the connect everything directly to the TV’s HDMI inputs, and then connect the ONKYO receiver by way of a Coax cable to the Digit input of the ONKYO receiver.
How can I get it to work again using the ONKYO receiver as the hub instead of the TV? Connected the way I have it now, I’m not taking advantage of the ONKYO receiver’s HDMI inputs as well as it’s 7.1 capabilities.
I think I may have either turned something on or off in either the TV or the receiver, and it is creating the problem. Besides video and sound, it seems they are creating systems so HDMI connected components can control each other by way of the HDMI connection.
Could something like this be causing the problem?

Just took my new TX-SR605 out of the box last night and spent 2+ hours wiring my new speakers and video components. I connected my Scientific Atlanta HD-DVR cable box with component cables, and my Panasonic upconvert DVD player with an HDMI cable. Then I ran an HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV and set the receiver's HDMI Monitor Out setting to "on". The TV picked up the HDMI connection, as I could see the on-screen setup display from the Onkyo receiver on my TV. However, it wasn't relaying any cable signal. I went through the steps of assigning the component and HDMI inputs, and even moved them to different inputs (and reassigned) and it still wouldn't work. Running the component cables from the cable box direct to my TV works fine. I read and re-read the Onkyo manual a thousand times, and it talks all about the receiver automatically "upconverting" video inputs if you connect to the TV with an HDMI cable. But nothing is working! Anyone else have the same problem?
I like to think I'm pretty seasoned when it comes to home theater setup with almost any A/V component. It's my job. Recently I set up a system involving the Onkyo TX-SR605 and for about 2 months the client had no complaints. It worked flawlessly and then suddenly stopped. The problem was exactly what I've seen posted here numerous times. Same connections .. utilizing the 2 HDMI ins and the 1 out to the TV. I am beginning to think it may be a flaw in the receiver itself. If anyone has figured out a way to fix this problem then please, I am all ears. No A/V setup should be this complicated in the up-keep.The client thought it must be the universal remote (logitech harmony) that was causing the problems and I was almost convinced until I read this forum. It's a bit of a pain in the *** considering everytime it ceases to work, I have to make a house call to reset every parameter to get it going again.. The other interesting part is that the DVD player works just fine when switching around but the HD cable is not showing a picture ONLY when switched to HD (ie. going from regular cable channels 100 to 703 [the hd channels]). When going from "analog" to "HDMI" you can hear the audio improvement but then the picture goes away. Unfortunately the only temporary fix I can suggest is running the HDMI cable directly to the TV in and running the audio via RCA from the cable box to the receiver. I'm fairly certain that will no longer be 7.1 however at least my client has a picture with the audio!! If I figure it out I promise to post.
Oh and PS: I don't think this is any of what your problems seem to be but just incase..
If you have say, the DVD player HDMI out plugged into your ONKYO HDMI in 1 and the CBL in 2 then by pressing the "setup" button it should go as follows..
HDMI setup>dvd in1 (directional keys)

CBL in2
