Follow the steps in the Dell Latitude D600 Service Manual at: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd600/en/sm/sysboard.htm#1000473 which show you how to remove the existing motherboard and then reverse the steps to install the new one. . . You will need to obtain a replacement motherboard either from Dell or from an auction site such as eBay.

No dear the both motherboards are altogether different from each other, you need the identical motherboard as d620 have.

This is do to the jack were the power button board plugs into the motherboard, i see this alot on d600 and d610, the lights come on for about 3 sec then computer turns off..

this can be fixed by resoldering the plug to the motherboard but most will say you need a new mother board the leads are small and tight together..


Used motherboard on ebay $60-150

Have you tried both battery and A/C adapter... one at a time. If it still wont work, and you know your battery and A/C adapter work, then you have a bad motherboard.

I don't know if it is repairable, you may just have to buy a new one.

test power supply- test ram- have cpu tested- test connection from front button to motherboard

go to mfg websight and down load all th proper drivers there is likely a mother board driver not installed that allows it to see the ports
install all of the manufacturer's drivers
dont expect that microsoft wrote windows just for your computer it is a general set of generic drivers that make most things work but not every thing

I recommend Ebay. You can get a good used motherboard for around $100, just make sure that the motherboard is guaranteed to work, so your protected if it doesn't. I've gotten many used boards off Ebay, and had no problems. Used or refurbished is just fine, there's really no sense in paying the $400 for a new one. If the $150 refurbished has at least one year warranty or better, that would be the route to go. Here's a link to Ebay's listing for the D600 motherboards.
